The Sound of Music Tour
This is one of the two houses in Salzburg used in "The Sound of Music." Hi Folks,
We are in Salzburg right now. We got here this morning from Münich and immediately fell in love. Since most stores in Münich are closed on Sundays we spent three hours trying to find bread and brie or any other cheese. When we finally found a place in the train station, I (Diana) picked up some cheese to smell and discovered that it had a plethora of maggots feasting on it. I screamed and threw the cheese on the floor and ran away. Lindsey and I were laughing so hard. The grocery guy came over to examine what I had done and gave me a look that one only gives mentally unstable people. I told him what I had discovered and he simply put the cheese back on the shelf. I explained to him again, thinking that perhaps he was partially blind, and he finally understood what I was referring to. He still thought I was crazy.
When you are in another country it´s crazy how long it takes you to do a simple errand like buying a battery for your camera or buying some cheese. It´s frustating. We bought a bottle of wine last night and
Salzburg Coffee Shop
We visited this coffee house a few times. It had great coffee, not only espresso!, and great artwork. shared it with our bagguette, cheese minus the maggots, chocolate and apples on the top floor of our hostel. It was a good end to our day, or rather last couple days, of rudeness.
Funny note... we got a message from a German lady who was deeply offended that we said that people in Münich were rude. It was funny. It was along the lines of: "Didn't your tour guide tell you that all we German people do is watch porn?" We laughed pretty hard. First of all we never said that all Germans watch porn. Second of all, who reads strangers travel blogs and then takes the time to send them messages? My goodness... get a life.
Anyways, when we got to Salzburg this morning, we felt like we were living in luxury. It is a blend of Paris and Bavaria. Much more classy than Münich, but still very much more like a town rather than a city. People told us that we would only need one day in Salzburg, but we have discovered otherwise. We did The Sound of Music tour this afternoon and it was wonderful. Our bus got into a minor accident on the
way back, but all is good. On the bus they played songs from the movie and the original Broadway cast recording. It was great. We sang our little hearts out and got to see some amazing locations that were shot in the movie as well as some views of neighbouring areas of the town of Salzburg such as the three major lakes. They are breathtaking. They look more like inlets of an ocean than lakes. We were trying to take photos, but photos just don´t do this city justice. I decided today that I want to spend a month or so here one spring or summer studying classical music. I told Lindsey that this city is made for me because the colour teal, my favourite colour, is everywhere. Even the lid on the water bottles is teal. Also, I´ve realized this trip that I have a strange fascination for doors. I keep taking pictures of doorways...
We may come back to Salzburg sometime later in August.
We don´t have too much to say about our time in Munich. We experienced more rudeness yesterday. People are much more friendly in Austria. Austria is amazing. We don´t know what else to say other than come to Austria! It´s beautiful. We are in awe.
Well, we are tired, but hey we don´t have much to complain about right?

So... were the hills ACTUALLY alive?
Salzburg was pretty awesome, but I didn't go on the Sound of Music tour. I think my teacher was pretty upset, as she spent half of the bus ride there teaching me all of the lyrics so we could prance and sing together. I was worried she was going to Von Trapp me and take me there. Another weird quirk about the teacher is she would always want to play tag. Every time I saw her, the first thing she would say would be "Tag." Sometimes she would ask me for a good game of tag. I loved Austria too. I hope you guys have a blast there. I'm glad you guys had a fun time in Salsburg. OH, one more pressing question: How do you.... solve a problem like Maria? I mean, I even heard her singing in the abbey! Keep on keepin on, ladies.
