Erie Canal Locks
This canal runs by Palmyra and these locks were located east near Lyon. We had a operator come explain them to us. We have covered a lot of territory. Yesterday we were a little lost and drove down even into Pennsylvania before turning back to the Finger Lakes Region. To see the Peter Whitmer Home we were on the wrong side of one of those lakes but just kept on going through the beautiful grape-growing areas along those long laeks . Truth is, the lake and scenery reminded is quite a bit of the vineyards and scenes near Versoix (Geneva) Switzerland on the lake there. We stopped for a wine-flavoured ice-cream dish that was really good. (no fear for driving or word of wisdom because the alcohol is evaporated in cooking the flavoring sauce). We did get back up to that historic site, again through beautiful country - some of it occupied by god-fearing Amish people.
Need we say we are getting a bit nervous about driving now into New Jersey adjacent to the Manhatten area of NYC? No matter, we are adventuring into that busy metropolis and will enjoy the experience.
Will likely have a few more tales to tell tonight and I'll try to relate more of our 'interesting' experiences. Seems I'm always rushing the blog.
