Doing the Travel Blog was beginning to seem too much like hard work so we took a break – now were well rested and ready to catch up on our blog.

We headed to Pai in a minibus – 4 hours and 730 corners later we arrived feeling a bit green from the twistiest road ever. We didn’t find out till we arrived in Pai that you’re able to rent a motorbike in Chang Mai and give it back in Pai and they transport your luggage for free – this would definitely of been a better way of making the trip.

Pai is the coolest little bohemian town full of guys walking around with dreads , tie dye t-shirts, and playing their guitars. There’s live music in most bars and Bob Marley wannabes.

Once we got off the bus we headed for our accommodation which involved going across a rickety bamboo bridge to our wooden bungalow which had amazing views over Pai especially the sunset which was almost nearly accompanied by someone playing the guitar and singing!

Phil had caught a bug in Chang Mai – ‘Chang Man-flu’ - and wasn’t feeling good at all so we spent a couple of days chilling on the balcony. Theres quiet a lot to do and see around Pai – waterfalls, hot springs, canyons etc and most of these are a short drive by motorbike and since its only £1.50 per day to rent a bike I thought I’d get one for myself – BIG MISTAKE!! Riding away from the rental shop as if I’d just drank a bottle of vodka - I should have known from then this might have been a bad idea! Two hours later I was in A&E getting my big toe nail extracted. We’d been riding about for a while and I thought I was a pro (I could drive in a straight line without my feet dragging along the ground) so we went off road to check out a waterfall. We came to a steep hill on a corner and Phil said that he’d check it out first but I was so excited that I could ride a motorbike I had already accelerated before he’d finished the sentence. Unfortunately I wasn’t going fast enough to make it up the hill and got half way before I started rolling backwards – not many people can claim to have fallen off a motorbike in reverse. When Phil came to lift the bike off me and I saw the colour drain from his face I knew this was serious – I knew I had to get HIM to hospital quick before he fainted- Poor Phil it must have been a traumatic experience lol So that was me out of action for a few days. Between Phil having Chang Man Flu Pai and my big toe we were like the walking wounded.

After we were both feeling well enough we went to see the Canyon, a few waterfalls and a land crack and a few other things. By then wed spent 7 days and thought it might be time to move on. Pai would have been amazing if the both of us were in full working order.

Lots of love,

-Phil & Alana

Xxx

P.S The bus back to Chang Mai was even worse – we had to stop so many times for a poor Chinese girl to be sick ugghhh!

P.P.S Motorcycling is dangerous when wearing flipflops – it should only be done wearing high heels.

your blog
Hi Guys Please do not stop writing your blog. I enjoy it very much, as I am sure many other, 'non commenting', readers do. I live vicariously through your travels, and find it amazing that two people can pickup, drop everything, and follow their dreams. Maybe I'll do it too one day... Keep going, enjoy and be safe! Regards from Antwerp, Belgium, Joe
