Me and The Dog
tough getting him to pose at the right angle. The One About Winding Down
I was anxious to get on the road, so up early and on I95 by 8:30. While walking Winston I spoke to some other folks who were overnighting – they had left TT Orlando early in the morning yesterday, heading to NC. Small world. When I started Moya, my rear jacks did not go all the way up, but the idiot light went off. Fortunately I saw this on my walk around. I turned the engine off, let it sit for a bit, turned it back on, and the light came on. I pressed the ‘raise jacks’ button and they went up and I was on my way. I am trying to ignore this issue. My trip was almost 200 miles, over the river and thru the woods, leaving I95 with 90 miles to go. I went thru some very small towns that looked familiar, and I guess I went thru them on my way south in January. They look different when sitting in a higher RV!!! Listening to a book, Dressmaker of Khair Khana, made the time go fast, it’s not like anything I have read in a while, and I was absorbed. I did the whole trip without stopping until I hit Myrtle Beach Travel Park. I was directed to site 132, a nice site, near the cut thru to the ocean, with no one on either side. That is desirable to me. If you are in the shade of a big rig, your rig doesn’t warm up because the sun doesn’t hit it – remember, these sites are close together here. I went for a wonderful long walk on the beach, took the picture herein, and was in heaven, even though it was chilly.
I heard from friends Linda and Bill who I met thru other RVing friends, Tom and Todd. They are in Surfside Beach, about 20 miles south of here, and we made plans for them to pick me up for dinner on Tuesday. Cool!
I slept like a rock, the wind was rocking Moya and me, and the waves crashing are my sleeping pill. It was cold, so my space heater cycled on and off all night, and temperature when I woke up was 34. But, the sun was out and I was walking by 7 – and was not the first, the die hard shell collectors were out in force. This is the time to collect those precious shells, no wind, good light, and not picked over. I got some small pieces of driftwood – thinking ahead to my Newcomer’s Club terrarium making event coming up soon. I left them in the sun to dry out.
By late morning the sun was warming Moya, and I found a nice sunny spot out of the wind and crocheted for an hour. I spent the afternoon packing up clothes, going thru papers, balancing my check book, cleaning out the refrigerator and wiping down cabinets. I have about half of what I want to do done, I will save the other half for tomorrow. I finished listening to Dressmaker, actually gave it a 4 star rating on Goodreads, a high score for me. I started a science fiction thing called The Passage by Justin Cronin and so far so good.
Bill and Linda picked me up at 5 and we went to Margaritas Mexican restaurant, very close to the campground. It was good to catch up with them. For years they have been wintering in Myrtle Beach and summering at Buttonwood CG in Central PA, which is where I met them. This year they are staying in Myrtle Beach for the summer – trying something different for a change. I ordered a happy hour Margarita, $2.99, and shrimp fajitas, $13. I have enough leftovers for lunch tomorrow. They were YUMMY! Good choice, Bill and Linda!!! Good to see you!!
I started doing some preliminary numbers on my trip. Unfortunately, I cannot find my spreadsheets from previous trips!!! Not like me, I tend to be anal about those things; my old spreadsheets must be on my external hard disk. But, from what I remember, if you take away the fact that I bought a new RV, I have spent about $500 less than I generally do. I was on the road for 59 nights, averaging $22/night campground fees. 181 gallons of gas used, but I will need to put some in before I head home, average cost $3.51/gallon. Total miles will be about 2000. I have no idea what Moya’s gas mileage is. It’s $$painful to fill her 80 gallon tank and I probably will not do it when I leave Myrtle Beach. I am banking on the price of gas going down a little before my big trip to Utah. Gas Buddy just told me gas is about $.15/gallon cheaper here in MB than at home; I surely will get some.
I heard from Kathy, she is enjoying her stay in the Panhandle, and she will go home next week, hopefully it won’t be snowing. I heard from Ginnie. Elliot has been limping, she has an appointment with the vet tomorrow to get him checked out. Thinking of her..XXXOX.
Yes, I am sad my trip is over, I enjoy this time away, ostensibly to get away from the ‘cold’, but who are we kidding. It’s not cold in Wilmington in the winter. I just enjoy getting away and spending time with my friends and being with my dog and my RV. I enjoy seeing old friends and family, and traveling the back roads of the south. I LOVE learning about new things, The Silver River and the Florida spring system fascinated me this year, and I read everything I could find on line. I have a good time crocheting and reading and listening to books. This is my “me’ time. I’ve earned it. I enjoy it.
But, I am glad I am going home. It will be nice to take a shower in a big shower. I can’t say sleep in a big bed, as Moya’s bed is larger than my bed at home!! I want to be in my house for a while, start to work in the garden, see my grandkids.
I will enjoy my day tomorrow, despite the nasty forecast. I will find peace and contentment in continuing to clean Moya, and ready her for our next adventure.

Almost home
Hey Kat! Almost had a tear in my eye while reading this last blog. I'm sure it is bittersweet for you to be ending this journey. What an amazing trip! I have thoroughly enjoying "traveling" with you. And I have never "been" to Utah, so I'm looking forward to our, I mean YOU'RE, next trip! Thanks for the invite to see Moya. I tutor on Friday mornings, so I will text you on my way home and if things work out, I'd love to stop by. Enjoy your last days. G
