First, I have never wanted to go to Disney World. I hate, HATE scary rides. I have been to Carowinds several times and always end up holding peoples purses while they go screaming by. But my fiancée has a Disney heart. He loves Disney World as much as I hate scary rides. I am learning the key to all good relationships is to work it out. In an effort to lose some weight before I get married I agreed a couple of months ago to run the Disney Princess half marathon with a friend.
I love to travel but do not plan very well. I cannot express how blessed I am to be marrying someone who will plan out our trips. They are always amazing. Pete happily booked hotel rooms and made dinner reservations. I began running.
More on training and running later.
Epcot Disney World is nothing like Carowinds or fairs, or other amusement parks. They are not trying to scare you or make you scream. They might be trying to teach you something. The first park we visited was Epcot. Why did no one tell me the iconic ball was actually
a ride through history! Spaceship Earth is not scary but you get to travel through time. You get to see pharaohs and emperors. There is the hall of Presidents where I got hear Abraham Lincoln give a speech and see all the Presidents. It is pretty awesome. We designed a car and then tested it out. I like rides where I am watching a screen and the chair is moving. I can always look down and be ok. There were several rides like this, which made me happy! I also have a slight obsession with 3D. There were several rides in 3D, which were awesome. The attention to detail at Disney is amazing. The waiter at our Italian restaurant was from Italy.
Magic Kingdom The next day was the Magic Kingdom. I think what I like about Disney is you are walking from one ride to the next and then all of a sudden there is a parade. Or suddenly there is a talking trashcan! As the day progresses you buy into the magic that bears talk and princesses exist. Anything can happen.
The Disney Princess Half Marathon. Only Disney can convince you
to pay them money to wake up at 3 am on your vacation and go run 13.1 miles.
But I did and it was a lot of fun. There were over 26,000 people " running" this race. So to make sure that you made the race time and not get cut off from the start line when the race starts we had to be at the start line by 530. Which meant being on the the bus by 4. There were so many people. I was really worried about being picked up by the paddy wagon for going to slow. But, there were people who had obviously not trained and some people walked it. I managed to run 13.1 miles in 2 hrs and 38 minutes.
This race was an excellent way to ease my way into running. It was not a hardcore race and it was a lot of fun.
Likes As we ran there were Disney characters along the way for you to stop and take pictures with. We ran through the Magic Kingdom, and through Cinderella's Castle. There were lots of people cheering us on.
Dislikes Getting up so
early.
According to my Pedometer I ran an extra half-mile because of all the zigzagging that I had to do. People would stop suddenly and veer off to go take pictures. Or suddenly stop to walk. There was never a time when it opened up so that I could just run.
Disney Hollywood Studios With a quick wash of my face in the sink and a coffee I am ready to go. It is only 9 am and we can still beat the crowds. This park has my favorite ride but might be my least Favorite Park. I am not sure if the reason it was my least favorite park was because I was tired. Th behind the scenes ride around Disney was really cool but I did fall asleep at one point. I woke up when the ride started tossing me back and forth and water started rushing down a mountain right at me. I definitely missed something.
Animal Kingdom The last day at Disney we went to Animal Kingdom. We got up early and went on an African Safari. I wanted to go to Africa for our Honeymoon. This
was a great way to see the animals without all the dirt and danger. It was one of my favorite rides. I am very proud of the fact that with sleep, I found courage, I was able to go on the roller coaster ride Everest. We rode this ride three times. This is not my favorite ride but Pete's Disney heart is now full for another year.
I like Disney World but not as much as Pete who is already planning our next trip. I might even run again.

To think I lived in Fl. for 15 years and never went to Disney!! I guess Bob did not have the same heart as Pete. I am so proud of you, Trisha. Love you. Grandmama
