Arrived here safe and sound after flying with Spirit Airlines that was reported to be an awful airlines to fly with. I found them efficient, helpful, to a fault, courteous and had a sense of humor - something like our WestJet. You CANNOT go over their baggage limit otherwise you pay BIG dollars, which unfortunately meant I could bring almost nothing in the forty lb limit but it WAS cheap.
Francisco met me at the airport. Francisco is a young man of about 42 married with one child, that the people who own the house I am renting have hired to look after the place for them. Francisco is nothing short of amazing and I could not have been successful in transitioning into the place without his help. I would not be able to send this blog as he spent about three hours trying to get the internet working for me only to find that ultimately I have to sit on the upper balcony overlooking the Pacific to operate the internet - what a first world problem as Jenny would say....
Yesterday Francisco took me into Ortino, a village and introduced me to the woman who cleans the house.
I would like to hire her to do a little cooking for me and maybe clean once inbetween what she is being paid for - at $3.00 an hour I think I can afford it. Anyway, this young woman has at least four children, cleans houses and runs a very small cafe out of her home where the people from the village come to eat. It was very interesting to visit her in her home. Maybe once I retire I could set up a restaurant in the driveway of Crean?????
I also took possession of the car yesterday - or I should say truck - it is a Gallanger I think - and drives like a tank. Gas is about 1.25 a litre here so a little more than home. Anyway, I got to drive this tank into Ortino with Fransisco with me which was a little reassuring.
I went to this throw back to the 60's establishment for dinner last night at the recommendation of Dana and John - who my landlords. It is right along the ocean and got to see my first sunset which was very nice and listen to some great music. Unfortunately I
stayed a little too late - I'm sure no-one will believe this...the sun had just set and it seemed like it was just getting dark and then boom it was dark and I had to try and negotiate my way back to the house, which I think is about 23 kilometers - on a windy road and all of it foreign to me. Fransisco had taken me to Jaco which is further along so I had some idea how far everything was and thankfully there is a restaurant right across the turn off into the area where I am staying. I just missed the turn off because it is not marked of course but I did manage to see the restaurant in time to hit the brakes, pull in and then back up and go back. I was kind of proud of myself for being able to find my way in the dark and did not have to wander the highways trying to find my way back.
Last night was kind of windy out which made me nervous and I didn't sleep well but this morning I could see all the debris in the pool so now I know
what to expect and will be able to sleep much easier. Today it is very hot even with the breeze that manages to offer some respite.
What have I REALLY been doing you might ask - almost nothing and lots of it. I managed to walk out to the highway, which is about a half hour walk and across for brunch a couple of days ago; I have been to see the monster crocodiles down by the river - I was standing on the bridge😊 but apart from what I have already shared - it's been kind of a dog's life here; and I'm loving it.
I think of my friend Karen in Cairo and I hope she is safe.
Oh I have seen maccaws two days ago and then again todayas well as some humming birds in my trees. Those maccaws are some noisy; although not as noisy as whatever creature sqwacks and sqwacks for hours on end at night - I wish I had a bullet actually....but I'm such a coward I won't even go out my screen door to see what in the heck it is. You cannot imagine how much noise this creature
makes! I have to ask my neighbor Rob what he thinks it might be. Rob is originally from Vermont, x-military and has married a woman from CR and has many children - all boys. He says he is going to keep trying until he gets his girl - good luck with that. He can afford help with all the household chores though so his wife has only, I say only with tongue in cheek, to look after the children.
Okay, enough for today. Oh, one more thing - this house would be PERFECT for my dance friends... guys there is ROOM to dance and three bedrooms and three bathrooms....could be a PARTY....judging from Outback Jacks OBJ that I went to last night people do know how to party. I was just missing my party of ?????
Luv to you all.
Fay

Your holiday
I am glad you are enjoying yourself. Rose says she wished she would of stayed longer , 2 days of getting there and then 4 hours to drive to their place to stay and 2 days to come back home so she only had 6 days there she said. Then some of the group she was with just came back to bad news, one of the sons was to marry in June and instead tried to commit suicide but did not succeed so has brain damage. So she will hear more later she says. Also the guy Kent who was 92 years old and putting on the chinese suppers of Taichi dies on Wed , still going thru with the supper inj his honor. Nothing else new . Enjoy your holiday
