Sydney Tuesday and Wednesday
We've had a lovely chat with Danny Betsy and the children and Naomi on Skype, might be the last time we speak like this as we don't know what sort of connection we will get in Vietnam. Somehow in the conversation little Harry asked my middle name and Danny said Linda Anne and little Harry said Linda and what? Betsy and Danny fell about laughing and so did we- there is a time delay on Skype, so from now on my middle name will be Linda Andwhat!
This morning we had a lie in and got up at 7! We went for a lovely walk with Lea up to a headland where there were great views. We then met up with Harry who had gone for a bike ride and we all went for a swim in yet another free pool at Mona Vale and then into the sea splashing in the waves. This time we did not get bitten by seaweed lice because there wasn't any seaweed. We breakfasted at a local hostelry that sold flowers and furniture and then made our way back to Freshwater. Had a bit of a lazy afternoon and left early to
go to Sydney. We stopped at The Lord Nelson Pub so Steve could sample the locally brewed bitter which he enjoyed thoroughly and we ate pie and mash delish!Lea had a parking angel that allowed her to park next to the Opera House and we strolled there to see a show called 'la Soirée' this was a combination of acts from all over the world, thoroughly entertaining and highly amusing. The best acts for me were the pole dancing MALE who managed to combine theatre, strength, agility, and sex appeal in one, and a similar guy who started in a bath tub of water, wearing wet jeans and nothing else; using an overhead strap he cavorted around stunning us with his fitness and strength and ....... Wet jeans are a must! He also soaked everyone in the front rows. Steve has now decided to take up wet jean pole dancing!! There were also puppets and jugglers, hoop dancing, a contortionist, two people Irish dancing and table tapping like drums in a most entertaining way and more being hosted by a funny French guy who was a Freddie Mercury fan and got us all singing and standing, I could go on
... we had a brilliant time. When we emerged it was about 10 and the temperature was just right, warm enough to wander, Sydney in the evening is buzzing and the lights are everywhere. We stopped in a Belgium Beer place on the way home and fell in to bed just after 11.Next morning we went swimming on South Curl Curl beach, I really liked the pool, long and a sandy bottom and felt warm, Steve enjoyed splashing and swimming in the waves. After coffee and toast in Dee Why we came back showered and got ready to go to the Zoo.Sydney Zoo in Tarronga is in a stunning location overlooking Sydney Harbour and we drove there but you could get there by Ferry. Not expensive to get in we had some discount tickets we picked up from the Museum. It is well laid out and has a huge variety of native and not so native animals. The highlight of the visit for us was a silver backed Gorilla separated byjust a pane of glass away from us whilst he sat there munching on his lunch. The enclosure he was in was really spacious but I suppose it was still an enclosure. Lions,
Sumatran Tigers
Only 150 left in the world tigers, bears, gibbons, elephants and giraffe were there as well as tasmanian devils, kangaroos and koalas. A huge walk in aviary contained some beautiful birds, and another enclosure was for some highly poisonous invertebrates. Such a lot to see and everywhere you turned there were moving noisy sometimes water spraying dinosaurs! All not real but very effective and highly amusing especially when one of them screamed at me when I wasn't expecting it. We kept saying things like Lucy would like this, Mikey and Harry would like this, will have to venture to London Zoo with them when we return.Arriving back at Freshwater a very pleasant surprise was waiting, a letter from Steve's Mum and it was so lovely to read. We then did some shopping in Freshwater, there is a great bookshop there where you can take in books and exchange them for others and the staff know their books! Returned for drinks and a mammouth crossword session followed by lovely lamb chops and figs another cure for lambnesia. We are going to miss Sydney.
