Even though I've had a sore knee, we decide to walk downtown anyway. We always bring a camera since you never know what you'll see!

We stop at The Mission restaurant near the ferry for some lunch. At the recommendation of some neighbors, Ian has a bowl of chicken tortilla soup, I have a shrimp and avacado salad which is huge. They serve us some tortilla chips and salsa, as well as a basket of garlic toast. It's pretty good, Ian says he likes the tortilla soup I make at home better. We notice all the patrons are tourists - no locals. A band is playing Mexican music which is enjoyable. We are surprized to see they have already added a 15% tip to our bill, so we don't leave anything extra on top of that. We have not seen this as a standard practice but we'll be checking our bills more closely in future.

Mexicans in general are smaller people especially when compared to tall people like us, Ian at 6' 2" and me at 5' 11". We tend to stand about a foot taller than the average Mexican. It makes it easy to find each other when we're in places crowded with locals. The Mayans are even smaller than the Mexicans. Little Mayan ladies can often be found bagging groceries at Super Mega.

On our walk today, we come across the cutest tiny Mayan lady walking down the street, she is so small, she couldn't be more than 3 1/2 feet tall! She's looking for aluminum cans on the street which are the only recyclable product here, glass and plastic have no return value so they are often left lying around as litter. Ian walks up beside her, she's only slightly higher than his waist. We ask if we can take her picture, she is all smiles and very happy to oblige our request. We give her a few pesos for her trouble then she goes on her way. Too cute - what sweet little old lady! I'm sure she'd be surprized to know she is the star of our blog today, we just had to share these pictures!
