Me & My Mum!Me & My Mum!Me & My Mum!

She's great!

Thursday 20th July

So I am walking again. I must say my motivation was not at its highest when I woke up this morning and realised I would have to leave the farm and head back out on the road. But since my Mum was going to be dropping me off at least I wouldn’t have to get on a train. Good drive down to Worcester with only the normal traffic jams all the way along the M6 and then a lovely pub lunch with my Mum before putting my backpack on and setting off again. The pile of stones I had left had been knocked over (those pesky kids no doubt) but I still took a photo so you could see.

My Mum walked with me for about a mile along the river (she’s great!) and she was worrying about me getting sunburnt whilst I was worrying about her getting dehydrated. She left me as the path descended into nettles and headed back to the car. It was a very hot day to be walking at 2 in the afternoon and I was glad I didn’t have far to go. The official River Severn Way path

It's the same spot honest!
went off from the side of the river at one point but in my infinite wisdom I decided to carry on by the river as the path looked quite well trodden. Of course what followed was 15 minutes of scrambling through nettles and across a small stream so it would no doubt have been quicker (but much less fun!) walking along the official path rather than my “shortcut”!

Eventually I could see the tower of Worcester Cathedral ahead of me and then Sasha appeared in the distance walking down the path to meet me. Of course this then meant a celebration was required and luckily an ice cream vendor was near by so we had raspberry ripple ice creams to keep us happy as we sauntered back to Rob and Sasha’s flat.

So I am half way through my Long Walk Home and hopefully it will be another 15 days walking to get home. I am aiming for the weekend of the 6th August at the moment and since my feet have fully recovered again hopefully I will make it!

Pimms
Hi Helen, I am still impressed.....both with how far you have got.....and the dedication of some of your friends to pitch up on most days before taking you off to drink Pimms! How you can walk about in this heat I'll never know - it is bad enough sitting in a semi-airconditioned office! Keep up the good walk H

15 days left
I think you will miss the walking when it's over. I think you should carry on to John-O-Groats!

Life has not been the same without the Blog
Hi Helen, Glad you are back, your 'real life' experiance brings some sanity to the stupid life of a 'consultant' working away from home all week. It makes me focus on why I'm doing it. No Mortage and freedom! Keep it going, but maybe July and August were not the best months to go for a long walk home, it hot just sat at home! See you soon Paul
