Switzerland, beautiful!
Murray’s project with our organisation of the last 5 years has come to an end. It’s an end of an era really, and November has seen Murray say goodbye to the Nairobi and London offices.

In our last days in Nairobi, I (Miriam) went to Switzerland for a training and a job interview. I really enjoyed the training, and enjoyed finding out who I was without being Mrs Murray or Mama Charlotte. Switzerland was beautiful in Autumn, and we even had snow on the first day. My French is worse than I thought, and often I didn’t risk it, as in the past Singhala or mixed English/Swahili is more likely to come out. I met some great people, and also have a strange bond with those who I experienced the training with. It was INTENSE was all I can say!

Murray & the kids finished up in Nairobi, and went to UK for de-briefing, (I met up with them after my training). My sister, Sarah, was in the UK to help out with the kids while I was being “trained” as Murray had a very intense 10 days of meetings and reporting on the last 5 years at head office and with the donor.

The fastest way back to NZ for an inter-contract break is through the USA, we managed a brief stop over there. We were in Seattle for a few days catching up with American/Kiwi friends who lived in Kenya for 6 months. We were well looked after, and the kids fell in love with their dog Mac, which is a miracle (the kids are not great with animals).

We managed a quick day trip to Bellingham where Murray’s cousin lives; we caught up with them and met their little girl for the first time, which was lovely!

Then we went to Bend, Oregon to see family friends from Kenya, who have successfully transited back into “regular” life. They live in a beautiful forest type area, 5 minutes walk from a beautiful river, with stunning rock formations around, and 15 minutes drive from the ski field, it is now on Murrays list of top places to live! Unfortunately, we were a little early for the ski season, but the kids enjoyed playing in the snow.

Then we made the long journey to NZ for a hectic 2 weeks. We had a great time, apologies to those we missed, it was brief and extremely busy. We celebrated our 8 year wedding anniversary while in NZ, and managed a night away at the place Murray proposed to me.

Our big news is Murrays new contract, it’s in . . . . KENYA :-O Our new job is in Nairobi, Kenya, for a year! We are excited! So, we’ll be in Kenya for another year, and you have another year to come visit us, lucky you!

We’ve been married for 8 years, and we were in the same country (New Zealand), together!

Take care,

Miriam

That's great to hear that Murray got a job in Nairobi...
what were you training for and did you get a job offer too? We really enjoyed our two weeks in New Zealand in October. Looks like summer has arrived.
