joining us at breakfast Cartagena old city is a charming place with lots of history.
The San Felipe Barajas castle is really interesting with its old defensive batteries, cannons and hidden tunnels.
This is the largest fortress built in the Americas by the Spanish empire.
One highlight is the Santo Domingo church which has a fascinating history and it is amazing that the church has survived for centuries despite all the attacks on Catagena and damage caused by invaders such as Sir Francis Drake. Inside the church you can feel the history - it is the oldest religous building in the city and construction began in the late 16th century.
Outside the church in Santo Domingo plaza, for those who like large women, there is a bronze sculpture by the famous Colombian artist Botero.
Walking along the old city walls is very enjoyable with good views into the old city and narrow streets. We watched a pelican family diving into the sea for fish.
The streets in the old city are wonderful to explore and contain restored colonial buildings and there are several plazas with trees to provide shade from the hot sun. it is like stepping back in

street scene time. There are lots of colours, music, restaurants and shops to enjoy. Hawkers sell just about anything from cigarettes, water, beer, fruit and hats to miscellaneous jewellery.
This UNESCO heritage site is really a great place to visit.
