Cusco and the nearby area had many examples of settlements built on mountain tops (see first photo). The Incas were very adept at shaping stones so that walls would stand and resist movement even without mortar between the stones. They managed this even with very large stones (see photo 2). The person in the photograph was someone I employed to stand next to large structures to give a sence of scale.
I did briefly contemplate buying a llama (see photo 3) as a companion for my dog but when the colourfully dressed saleslady told me about the transportation costs, and that one of her llama-speaking relative would have to accompany it as a translator I demurred. I suspected that this was an attempt at immigration into Britain by a little known loophole and that once in Britain the 'relative' would immediately head for the Pennines, or some other suitable high altitude location.
Cusco seemed to have a thriving cosmetic surgery industry and is well-known for its augmented beauties (see photo 4). However, the downside of this was a thriving and blatant trade in human organs and body parts, with some shops showing extreme specialism (see photo 5).

Cusco
Great blog. Nice photo of a mountain top Inca village that isn't Macchu Picchu (or doesn't look like it). Very friendly looking llamas that don't look as though they are about to spit at you. When Obama was first elected president someone said he looked forward to the day when the USA would get into an argument with Peru over the import of its native animals, just so he could see the newspaper headline 'Obama-llama ding dong'.
