Øyvind gets a moustache!
Øyvind fulfills his dream of having enough facial hair to grow a moustache! The final sprint was upon us and amidst the millions of things Sadie thought we needed to fix and Øyvind hadn't even heard of, there were many goodbyes (and see-you-soons) to be had!
In the spirit of efficiency, we had a Goodbye party on October 20th (and were lucky enough to be able to borrow Øyvind's parents' house for the evening), and it was indeed a success, if we may say so ourselves. Sadie even managed to put together a lottery of things we wanted to give away, which we then raffled off, some items were welcome and others, well, let's just say we didn't manage to give away everything 😉 The night's prizes included glue-on moustaches, pink gloves and sparklers (which were immediately lit indoors, they were a winner!) among many others. The mood was high and we kept the party going until 6 am! Thank you to everyone who could make it, it was very special to be able to see you all before we left!
As the stressful time before our departure continued, we fought through having to pack down our little house (how did we ever get all that stuff in there????) and both sort
Magnus and his "guantes mágivos"
Magnus won magical pink gloves, they stretch to fit everyone and anyone! and give away things, as well as try to shove them into every free corner of Øyvind's parents's loft and basement (and free corners are hard to come by, as Øyvind's sister Heidi has also used this handy storage space during her long worldwide travels). This was combined with actually figuring out what to pack (more on this in a coming post) and doing all kinds of last-minute things such as Sadie working a few days as an extra on Hotel Cæsar (yes, she does get in front of the camera too on occasion) and Øyvind getting his very last shot just a few hours before leaving for our trip. And yes, there was some stress and tiredness and a little bickering involved, too. I don't know what I was thinking when I thought I would quit my job and Cæsar and have two whole weeks to sit down and look at my guide books and fantasize about our coming travels. There was pretty much none of that (I don't think reading for a few seconds before you pass out from tiredness counts..) Lets just say that Øyvnd was very surprised that there was still so much left to do
Sparkly Marthe
Sparklers were an instant hit! when he finished his job at The Angry Carpenter only one week before our departure.
But, being us, we tried of course to fit in more things. And one we couldn't miss was visiting Empire's crew (
http://www.sy-empire.com/), otherwise known as Øyvind's sister Heidi and her husband Eivind and our two favorite nephews, Eirik and Marius who on November 3rd will arrive back in Oslo after sailing around the world for 7 years (and having the boys underway). We were tired and had much to do, but it was definitely worth the drive to Risør to get to hug them before we embark on our own adventure! It didn't hurt that they had some very good tips (and quite a lot of traveler's medicines-both expired and not) for us 😊 Some of us return to "normal" life, and some of us are taking a break from it...
October 31st and our departure to Hanoi was soon to come!!!!
