In April I bought tickets to the Colplay concert in Osaka which seemed like a million years away...but it's has now come and gone. It was a long weekend in Japan, so Dana and I planned to visit Osaka and Kyoto. A little while later I found out that my lovely friend Linda was going to be in Japan! She and her cousin Zoe from Hong Kong joined us and it was GREAT!

Friday night Dana, Linda and I met at the station in Osaka, checked into Hotel Kinki, and set out for a night to remember! We sang until we couldn't sing anymore at a nearby karaoke bar. I've completely fallen for the the Japanese obsession of karaoke. You just rent a room with friends and stay for hours singing, eating, drinking. It's so much fun! I'm happy that Linda got to experience it with me!

Saturday, Dana and I went to the Osaka Aquarium, which is apparently one of the biggest in the world. I felt like a kid in a candy store! I had a huge, cheesy grin on my face the entire time. Part of it might have been the excitment from the adorable children there rubbing off on me!

The Coldplay concert was cool. They certainly know how to put on a show and please the crowd. Going to a huge concert like that in Japan was an experience that I will never forget. Unlike at home where the crowd goes wild and is never silent, a Japanese audience is quiet and reserved. I never would have thought that I would be at a rock concert where I could have a conversation between songs with the person next to me at a normal voice level! It wasn't because the people weren't enjoying it...because they were, and often showed it with clapping and a few cheers. I think the band was not used to this response, although I'm sure they were told about it ahead of time. Chris Martin kept shouting ''Ready? Are you OK?'' and even asked the lighting guys to turn the house lights on....maybe he was wondering if there was anyone out there! The concert was also really short. Not because the band didn't want to play (at least I hope so), but because there was a strict start and finish time, 6-8pm. That's the other thing....the concert was super early!

I was happy to see Coldplay live again, and very intrigued to see a Japanese reaction to a rock concert.

Different!
I'm glad you got to a concert and witnessed such a different response. Certainly not what you've seen here at the ACC! We recently went to Bonnie Raitt the same night your parents went to see Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and that corner of TO was rockin'! Very cool jellyfish, and you're right, the penguins look like the ones on those ornamental skating rinks until you turn them on and they move!
