We got the 8.30 train from Copenhagen to Stockholm – it was a Swedish SJ train and was like the ICE train from Brussels to Cologne a few days ago. The SJ train had even more room but not as futuristic – bit like BMW compared to SAAB. We arrived on time to Stockholm Central, which was similar size to Cologne and Copenhagen station but nowhere near as big and scary as Brussels and St Pancras.

We are staying at City Backpackers Hostel and it was about a ten minute walk from the train station. The hostel is absolutely amazing – so lovely and clean and feels more like a hotel then a hostel. And you get as much pasta as you can eat for free (free food – my favourite thing!!). Would highly recommend this hostel is anyone is thinking about visiting Stockholm!

First day we just took a walk around the city which is made up of so many islands – water , bridges and boats everywhere. We spent a bit of time at Gamla Stan which is the medieval part of the city, and so pretty with the narrow cobbled streets. We went to the Grand Palace just in time for the changing of the guards – not as impressive as Buckingham Palace changing of the guards – ddiiissaaappoooinnteddd!! Lol Headed back to the hostel for some free pasta.

Second day we went to see the Vasa Museum. The Vasa ship was built in the 1600’s and sank after 40 minutes on its first voyage – oh dear! Scundered to the one hundred!! After it being under the water for 333 years it was raised…Me and Phil knew it was going to sink coz it had big holes at the sides lol. Thought this museum was abs brill (never thought id hear me say those words) and spent most of the day there. After that headed back for some free pasta.

Third day we did a cycle tour arranged by the hostel – we had old school vintage bikes with no proper brakes (or maybe Phil was trying to cash in our holiday insurance lol ) but they looked so cool and I want one! Elena the tour guide brought us all around Stockholm and told us all about the city – who would have thought history would be so interesting??

Stockholm is really pretty but really flipping dear and if you’re on a budget a couple of days is probably enough.

Getting the Viking Ferry to Helsinki tomorrow.

Lots of love to everyone back home!

Sweden is a nice country and Swedish companies are in general very productive and environmentally conscious.
