Disabled Orphanage
The cots are where they stay most of the day until we get them out and put them on the mats outside Well we have now completed our last day at the disabled orphanage. It was sad to leave them but if I am totally honest I found it really hard on our last day as I was getting frustrated that all I could do was feed them and take them outside their cots and put them on mats outside their room on the landing. I did put one of the little boys in a toy car and play race track with him around the corridor of the building. I do have a little quote from Tom who is one of the volunteers "you would think as this orphanage is run by the government that they would install air conditioning units!" to which I replied the fans in the roof are air conditioning ehhhh bless the youth of today.
Last night we went to see the water puppets. Yes, water puppets. We arrived there and took our seats right on the front row. Not bad we thought as we had not booked the tickets and were told that the show gets booked up really quickly with tour companies. So the curtain goes back and there is a small swimming pool or very
Water Puppets
Yes the water they are in is the same colour as the Mekong Delta - a lovely shade of brown! large bath in front of us with a curtain and out comes a puppet which was around 2ft tall and at the side of the pool the musicians started singing in Vietnamese - then puppet dragons came on the scene and musicians started wailing it was all surreal and hilarious at the same time. Mind you as the water puppets is a Vietnamese tradition you could not laugh as it would have been seen as disrespectful. When the show finished we went outside and all I can say is there was a torrential downpour of rain you could not see in front of you and the pavement had as much water as the swimming pool had inside where the puppets had performed. So, we jump in a cab - number one mistake as we never checked it was one of the reputable ones and low and behold we end up with a cab fare that was triple the price we paid getting there - as it was still raining (being kind there pouring down) we were stuck and could not say STOP the cab and get in a reputable one. Make note to oneself check the cab company before getting
Our kids on a ride
How do I make this thing go up? in. We got the cab to drop us off at Godmothers which is a bar and cafe as we had not eaten. We had a beer waiting for the rain to slow down as we had agreed to meet the boys in the mexican but decided as the rain was just starting to flow into Godmothers from the pavement as the rain was so strong we would stay and eat here.
We have booked our hotel for Nha Trang for a couple of nights and have really splashed out on a 5 star. Mind you in English terms I think at £58 a night for a 5* is really good going. It pays to shop around as some websites were quoting double this for the same hotel, isnt the internet a brilliant tool sometimes!
Well today we have taken 8 from the normal orphanage to Dam Sen Park which is the amusement park. This time we took older children who ranged between 4 and 6 years old. We also took them to the circus which they loved. So 8 tired children are now back at the orphanage and 6 tired adults are now back in our guest house - think it is going to be early to bed tonight. Mike and I check out tomorrow night as it is the end of our 3 weeks volunteering completed after tomorrow. Tomorrow we are taking 20, yes 20 teenagers bowling so that is going to be fun - don't forget to read the blog tomorrow as I am sure it will have some interesting comments.
Hope all is well with everyone.
