Old times and Disney!

Today we planned to head towards Oklahoma city. The closer we got the better as we needed to be in Amarillo the following day. However, this didn't go completely according to plan. After a morning swim in the munger moss pool (in the middle of the car park, surrounding by a chain link fence as all good motel pools are) we hit the road. With no particular hotel booked we hoped to get as much distance under our belts as possible

Driving along old route 66 we came across a very random safari park. The walk around section was like something out of the olden days, animals in verly small cages, it was a bit odd. We then took the posh hire car through the safari. It was gnawed on by deer, donkeys and the odd buffalo plus some very friendly, very large cows wiped their snot across our windows.

We wiped the car down and carried on. In the middle of nowhere we met the most amazing man. Gary turner, a man who is a route 66 fanatic. He owns a garage on the highway with the most amazing collection of old route 66 memrobillia and curios I have ever seen. He gave us cold drinks, and took our picture. He refused to take any money from us but gave us some great tips for our trip. He pointed us in the direction of our next stop, a crazy little restored town with a lot of added extras called Red oak. A very bizarre place!

We continued our trek stopping for dinner at a classic diner. "Iggy's diner" is housed in a steel building. Just like all good diners from the 50's. Here rob finally got to eat a burger the size of his on head. A pound and a half of meat later we were on the road again.

Our final sight of the day was towmator! One of Ellie's dreams came true! Finally, very late we decided to stop. No where near our prefered destination of Oklahoma city. O well, tomorrow is another day of driving :-)
