Auckland… the biggest city in New Zealand… the end of my NZ experience!
We arrive here late on Saturday, just in time to take the super fast elevator up the Sky City tower, about 200m high, and see the city and its surroundings before and after sunset. Surprisingly, there was another high adrenalin experience here: standing on the glass bottom in a height of almost 200m…it’s a lot scarier than sky diving :-) even though I knew it was totally safe, I was terrified!
At night we finally felt that we reached a real city. The area where we stay is full of cafes, bar and restaurants. We decided to celebrate properly our last evening together in New Zealand and chose the best restaurant that the Lonely Planet offered us: it’s called Chandelier (in Ponsonby st., just in case you ever come here) and it served us our best dinner in NZ. It was really good food! And the décor is lovely, and the service: a real adequate place for the prince and the princess that love the “dolce vita” and still travel as backpackers here.

The last day was such a summary: the jet boat, the islands, the views,

the tower - as a symbol to all the mountains we climbed… the backpacker, an amazing dinner, and after that laundry :-) My life as a traveler in one day.

This morning Erez and I kissed goodbye - off he went to the rest of his travels, and I went to really celebrate my last day. Apparently, I missed city life! So apart from many hours on the Internet (to update you with all my stories!), I did lots of shopping. I decided to completely change my wardrobe: I can’t carry more so I’ll have to get rid of the old stuff for the new things. I bought 3 new pants: jeans (who told me not to take one?), black pants for the evening (to replace the ugly pair I wear now), and new travelers’ pants (the old pair is completely worn out and they had great sale at “Katmandu”…). In addition I bought a nice and warm top, for chilly Meburne (maybe also chilly Sydney?). Then I had late lunch at the Belgian café, with mussels and Leffe Brun. I did miss that… I already see how much I can spend in a week in Sydney… Traveling in the country is cheaper…
Tomorrow I will ship a big package home: lots of souvenirs, my hiking boots and my sleeping bag - I don’t plan to use them in Australia. A new part of my trip is starting now, and I am totally excited to see how it will be, who will I meet, what will I see, and how much I will enjoy it (probably a lot!). It’s been great here, but it’s time to move on and see more of our world!
