Me at the beach - as promisedMe at the beach - as promisedMe at the beach - as promised

Realization: Salt water + hair = crazy mane of curls
I am sooo tired. (As in I fell asleep minutes earlier typing the password to my computer..)

Did I mention I love flying? I think I did, but if you ask me right now, I'm not quite sure I could come up with a reason why. I'm only grumbling because I can't sleep on flights. It's physically impossible for me to go to sleep. And anyone would be a little worn out after being awake for over 24 hours.

Weariness aside, the flight was great. My sisters were very excited - both Kaja and Kia got a window seat for take-off and touchdown - and I realized in the Copenhagen airport that neither mom nor dad have been on a plane since their youth, so I felt quite like the globetrotter.

On the plane, Kia got all hyper after her nap, so she started fetching us drinks from the other end of the plane like a little stewardess. Didn't know whether to be proud or slightly embarrassed, haha. Katja and I were the only ones who didn't sleep, but crosswords, music, and randomness kept us entertained (most of the time).

We had a layover in Bangkok, only

a few hours, before we finally landed in Phuket.

Now, that's when all the fun began! After an hour by taxi bus from the airport, we checked in at the hotel that we're staying at for two nights, and quickly changed into our swim wear. Even if our hotel is right next to the water, the nice sandy part of the beach is about a kilometer away, so we enjoyed a hilly walk by the side of the road in flip-flops and bikinis.

The ocean proved to be fairly salty, which my sisters' sensitive skin didn't appreciate, but we are all pretty fond of swimming, and the first day was spent at the beach playing in the water and getting tan (read: red). Well, the beach and the pool. Same principle.

We ate out for both lunch and dinner, but luckily the prices are not nearly as bad as in Denmark.

Living arrangements seem to have been decided. Two double rooms: one with Kasper and a little sister, me in the other with another little sister. And then mom, dad, and the third little sister. Then Katja, Kaja, and Kia rotate between us. Confusing, but necessary. Maybe they get to bunk with each other at some point when we all have adjacent rooms. Katja and I are sharing a room for the next few days, and Kasper and Kaja share one.

The temporary plan for tomorrow is to meet up for breakfast around 9, then catch the free shuttle to Patong Beach at 11, and then swim and shop until 5 when the shuttle goes back to the hotel. Knowing how this family works, nothing is set in stone 😉

Wow, looks like ya'll are having an awesome time already! And don't worry the culture shock wears off shortly.

Re: Marte
Still a little "culture shocked" at this point. The culture is much different - and the shock therefore more significant - than going to Europe from the US ;)

Re: Louise
It's about 35 degrees! Very warm! Also, pretty much everyone is sunburnt by now - mom, dad and I the least.
