The taxi got us to Da Nang in about 20mins and was a ride down the coast. We seen marble mountain on the way which would of been a good stop if we were driving ourself. We got out at the train station with our pal from Seattle who was leaving on the next train out. We bought our tickets for 2days away and went on our way to the hotel. When you look at Vietnamese maps you can never tell how big the city is and the hotel is always "only 10mins away" in my opinion and my opinion rules the roost...
It was about 20mins away so not too wrong but I didnt count on the Sun making it seem like two hours. We checked into our room/dungeon with no windows and got in the comfiest bed in Aisa. Slept until the evening and went looking for the busy part of town. I think the busy part of town was travelling round Europe cos it wasnt anywhere. Saturday night in Da Nang and everyone must of stayed in to watch the Whitney Houston news on CNN. We went to the recommended place for a beer and were the only
people in. Beer was good though! We walked again and couldnt find anywhere to eat, on the way home spotted a woman selling food from a trolley and had a pretty nice rice soup. Didnt really fill us up though so we got a pizza takeaway from near our hotel and ate it in bed while Utd Liverpool was on. Party animals us!!
Next day we realised there was actually nothing to do in Da Nang. They did have a beach but was on the other side of town and wasnt worth it. We walked 20mins to find a nice bakery only to find it wasnt open on Sundays haha. Stoped at another womans trolley an had a baguette. The woman spoke a bit of English, told us she was 60, told Rosara that I was beautiful and young, and that we should have tea with her family tonight. Ro thought she was crazy but I thought she was brilliant. Knew her stuff when it came to men.
We had a thrilling couple of hours playing Gin Rummy and ventured out again for food. This time we didnt bother walking to the "busy part" of town and instead got some
grilled corn from a woman, Pho from a little shop and Ice Cream for pudding. 3 course meal for about £2
Luckily we only had two days here and next morning went back to train station to go to Hue. This was to be the only train in Vietnam because all the others were too expensive and also this train went over the Hai Van Pass. You might of seen it on Top Gear its through the mountains overlooking the coast and was well worth the train journey. A little Vietnamese boy on the train decided he was going to feed me his pack of crisps 1 by 1 and I wasnt going to complain because 1) I didnt want to upset him/the rest of the locals and 2) The crisps were well nice.
3 hours later we arrived in Hue and once again according to the map the hotel was "only 10minutes away"
