Looking Dapper Before the LHK Ball It´s now under a week until David and I leave for South America and we are still doing many last minute prepartions. We had our halls summer ball last night which was really good fun and we were feeling the effects of heavy drinking and wild dancing this morning.
The last ten days since I finished my exams have been mad and have flown past so quickly that I now find myself so close to flying "half way round the world" and still with alot to do, our planning is going quite well and we have figured out the main places that we want to visit. This is a very long process as trying to plan for three months takes a lot. so here is a quick over view of how our trip is shaping up at the moment.
ARGENTINA:- We will be flying into Buenos Aires on the 30th of June 2006 and this is one of only three dates that are definate. We plan to spend three or four days in BA and then start to treck up North towards the famous Iguazu water falls. This a hard decision to head north or south and I only hope that we have made the right choice. After a day or two at the falls, and possibly a day trip into Brazil to vist their side and the Itipu dam, we will start to head south west down to Posadas and the Jesuit ruins, then heading north west across the Gran Chaco (A vast lowand area) to Salta province. After a couple of day there we will head south along the edge of the Argentine Andes through Tucuman, San Juan and on to Mendoza where we plan to indulge in the pass time of wine tasting.
CHILE:- All going well we should cross over into Chile around the 21st of July and head straight to Santiago. After exploring the city we will head north up Chile doing some sking before hand. We stop off at Valparaiso and other scenic towns on the way. At the top of the country we will spend time in the vast Atacama desert going to the vally of the moon and others.
BOLIVIA:- From the Atacama desert we will head up into Boliva on around the 5th of August and head firstly to the salt flats of Salar de Uyuni where we hope to rent a Jeep and do some driving, then we will bus to Surce then maybe into the jungle to Parque Nacional Noel Kempff Mercado. From here we'll travel upto La Paz where we hope to base several of our treaks, hopefully including Huayna Potosi a large mountain at 6088m tall aswell a a six day trek called the Mapiri Trail which is ment to be intense. After those hard core trecks we will head noth west of La Paz to vist the ruins of Tiahuanaco then onto Lake Titicaca to hopefully kayac round the Isla del Sol.
PERU:- Heading into peru to Cusco for our second fixed date the start of the inca trail on the 1st of september. after the inca trail we will head to Arequipa where we may do another mountain trek. Then we will head up peru to Lima making stops at any points of intrest to us. Then after a couple of days in Lima we will head home on the 21st of September.
