Only have 10 Euros?
Then you get to sleep on the roof in a hammock. Cool! I was right. Cadiz is great. Im putting it on my 'things to do and places to be' top 10 list for Europe. It's that good. So to those of you who tipped me off about this place; a huge thank you. Got there and it just felt comfortable. Very homelike atmosphere with some of the nicest people running and staying at the hostel I booked. Pretty much all there is to do here is go to the beach. And some really nice beaches too. Not great surf, but enough to catch a short body ride on.
But I have to say that I had heard about the Ciesta's here in Espana. I mean Spain is the home of the afternoon nap. But I had not really experienced it anywhere else, like I had experienced it here. If Spain is the home of the Ciesta, then Cadiz most assuredly is where the international governing body of ciesta overseers live. Because there is almost nothing open here in the middle of the day. From about 12:30 in the afternoon to about 5:30 in the evening, thing shuts down. Except for the beach of course. My train arrived in town around 3pm.

It's their world. I just live in it. After settling into my hostel, went to the tourist info office to try and find a map, but it was closed till the evening. I wandered around and found a department store, because I needed to buy a towel for the beach. It was closed till 6pm. But dont worry I used my travel hand towel and still was able to go to the beach. Wheeewwww. That was a close one, huh.
Got to the beach and love the fact that spanish women are ok with full male nudity. Just kidd'n. I had my board shorts on. But most of the women were not shy. But I am quite used to it at this point. It was the same in San Sebastian, and just about everywhere else I've been. Yes, you could say that I am a veteran and fan of european beaches. What is wrong with a little areola amongst friends. Or even a large areola. It's all good.
But by far, the cool thing is that drinking is allowed on the beaches here. You know why? Because people pickup after themselves here. Novel idea, I know. So there are people walking up and down the beaches
Hey Sarah...
Is that gold in your mouth, or are you just happy to see me? selling cold beer. Beer, sun, surf, sand, beautiful topless women. I tell you, some things just can not be improved upon.
Speeking of improvements... The place that I stayed at was a very old building. They were very conservative with the water and recycled thuroughly. I really respected and liked that. But one thing that I was not a fan of was the old plumming. My house had old plumming in it origianlly, and I know how much of a hassle it can be to upgrade. But some things are just necessary. Like when you're housing close to 40 travelers and one of the house rules is to not flush your toilet paper. You are asked to please throw it in the trash. There are even signs in different languages asking you to do this right in front of the toilet. They literally read, "...please throw your asswipe paper in the trash." Old School. I understand the need for it. But the collective cost of solving the problems that occur with that, (i.e. people still flushing it) along with the hassles must be more costly than just upgrading the plumming. But they did empty the trash cans at least
Thanks Ian
Yes, its a nice group shot, but I know you are all looking behind Sarah. once daily and the place was very clean aside from some sand that everyone traipces in from being at the beach all day. Unavoidable.
Made some Spanish amigos and we were playing a Spanish drinking game the day I was supposed to leave. My train was at 7:30pm and I was just killing time in the hostel. Reuben and Laura (from Madrid) sat down with me and we started talking. Talking led to drinking and eventually drinking games. "Duro", I believe is what it was called. Quarters basically, with a middle glass for racing, should the coin go in there. Last to finish had to take another shot from the large middle glass. No winners or losers, just drunken spaniards and americans. Really liked the game and that is all I am giong to say about that, except that I almost missed my train and not by accident either. Cadiz is a siren.
Hung out there for a few days and didn't really do much to speak of. I met some really nice people and had plenty of fun just relaxing and lounging around in this small town. It is not huge on the tourism. Most of the

Sightseeing? Check. OK, now to the beach. tourist I saw seemed to be from somewhere in Spain. It is exactly the kind of place that I think of when I hear the word "quaint". In fact when I looked it up online the definition I got was: . That is exactly Cadiz. But that is not a bad description of myself aswell. At least the strange part anyway.
Time for Easpana is shrinking and I have purchased a ticket back to England. But I have arranged to fly out of Barcelona so that I could visit a friend before I leave. My friends back in England have written to me and mentioned how sunny the wheather is there right now. I am sure that will change as soon as I land though. Cadiz, Spain... CHECK! Moving on, but it wont be easy.
