At 5am Dewi called us to make sure she had the address of our hotel. Our driver showed up an hour and a ½ early not realizing his watch was on Bali time. Dewi apparently gave him a pep talk before on to make sure he’s nice to us. His name was Abi and he was very knowledgeable about the surroundings. We first went to the train to purchase our ticket to Yogyakarta, then drove to Tangkuban Perahu, an active volcano. It last erupted in 1959. We first drove up to the look out and looked down on the large amount of steam coming off the bubbling water. After, we hiked down to a different spot called the Domas crater to get a up close look of the volcanic mud, an boiling puddles. We were able to put our feet into some of the sulphur water, and exfoliate our legs with the mud. It was pretty cool and we both left very impressed.

Bandung is known for its cuisine. Abi took us to an area with really good tofu. It was fried tofu that you eat with clumps of sticky rice and a spicy thick sauce. We also had crackers with it, and a coconut cake like thing. We absolutely LOVED lunch and continued on our way STUFFED.

Our original plan was to go to the hot springs, but them we remembered there is a Cultural dance that is put on in the afternoon at Saung Angklung Udjo. We decided that we can see a hot spring in Canada whenever we want, so why not check out the dancing.

The drive back to town was through villages, and neighborhoods. We saw some really poor areas, and also some realy rich neighborhoods.

The dancing and music at Saung Angklung Udjo was beautiful! The kids were so excited and entertaining. The Angklung is an Indonesian traditional musical instrument which is made out of bamboo. The music and dancing is all part cultural pride of the Sundanese. A man named Abah Udjo and his wife opened the art studio for art performance, and a laboratory for art education. Many children attend this school and learn dances and songs which are a part of their heritage. The show was put together really welll. The kids were really talented. They also handed out the angklung's to the audience and we got to learn how to play them. It was loads of fun. The money that comes from the tourists helps it keep running.

We had a really good time with Abi and are happy with our day.

Hi there
Hi there, I glad your have a great time in Bandung. I lived in Bandung for nine years. And I have a great time in there. But Bandung city is crowded at weekend by Jakarta\'s tourist. You should go to Ciater. The famous hot spring pool about a half hour from Tangkuban Perahu. But your decision to go to Saung Udjo to see dancing was right too. You can\'t see local dancing anytime and anywhere isn\'t it? Well, nice to read your story. Happy traveling. :)
