The day started early as we left the Sea of Galilee. Passing date palms along the road we stopped at the Kinneret Cemetary. Upon cemetary was located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. It was filled with date palms, trees, flowers, and cobblestone paths along the graves. Our tour guide told us about the original Zionist settlers in what is modern day Israel. We were told about how they came to this land, developed the Hebrew language, drained the swamps, learned to defend themeselves, and lived hard and difficult lives.

After leaving the Kinneret Cemetary we drove a little south to an Arab village in the north of Israel near a town called Karmel. We were taken to a High School were we met Arab highschool students. What struck me was how similar the students were to the students I teach back in Texas but most of them could speak English, Hebrew, and Arabic. They wore blue jeans and popular style shirts. The students enjoy music and chatting with people on the internet. We were then split into small groups and were taken on a tour of the neighborhood by the students. They showed us the streets were

they lived and then they took us to one of the parents house. We were welcomed warmly by the mother and were asked to make our selves comfortable. Although we could have stayed with the family longer we were on a tight schedule and had to leave. But the mother not let us leave without first have a drink. The people of the Arab village were friendly and a joy to be around.

Now we made our way south to the coast to the modern city of Tel Aviv. The city is like any modern city but lies along the along the wonderful and beautiful Mediterreanian Sea. Walking along the board walk, smelling the ocean breeze, enjoying the food, and trying a wonderful Israeli beer called Gold Star was a great way to end this wonderful day.

Tomorrow we head further south to the city of Jaffa and then to the desert to enjoy a camel ride, sleep in a bedouin tent, and then climb to the top of Masada to enjoy the sun rising. So Shalom and farewell from the wonderful and amazing Middle East.
