Things are pretty bad guys, im not gonna sugar coat this for yas… this is a freakin DREAM!!!!! I have just dragged myself back to our room to write this, ok so actually I really REALLY needed a minute out of the sunshine and figured that I could do something productive like write this at the same time! Holy heck Ibiza is an AMAZING place! Great start to our holiday, we actually feel like we are on holiday!!!
We flew in in the early hours of Saturday morning, made it to our hotel & were the last to check in and the welcoming party was far from impressive – everyone was in town! Debs came back to meet us & was followed not so closely behind by a fairly sober Ngaia, Lou, Paul (Debbies BF), Nikki (Debbies mate) & a very very drunk Hursty, Patz & Jon!!! Hahaha entertaining!!! We hung out for a while & were entertained by Jons hypnotic power over Patz – I have a video but I won’t spoil the show for you lot that will see it when they visit!
Despite the heat we managed to have an alright early mornings sleep (4:30ish till 7:30 for Trac & Rudz, I managed to get back to sleep till around 9:30!) – Patz had promised us poached eggs on toast for breaky @ 11am but when we called past their room @ 10:30 it was a struggle for her to even get outta bed to let us in – 6hrs earlier she was apparently the girl who NEVER let anyone down, oh how things change!!!
So it was off to the pool! BRILLIANT! Did some lounging, had some breakfast, did some more lounging, lounged in the baby pool right next to our loungers (who brings a baby to this place anyway??) then dried off in the sun before heading to Café Del Mar (around the other side of San Antonio from where we are!) to watch the sunset! Called in to the supermarket on the way of course & got ourselves dinner & drinks to take along, all we knew at this stage was that there were rocks to sit on and you could BYO drinks & food! Turns out it is a kinda beach of volcanic rock infront of some pretty cool restaurants come bars come nightclubs! We were there by like 7 & sunset wasn’t till after 9 sometime! Opps but oh well we made the most of the sun & drank our drinks out of bags of ice that were rapidly melting & leaving puddles of disgustingness beneath the bleacher like seating arrangement – ewww had to go wash my foot in the water at one point – filthy!!
Sunset was beautiful – and of course there was cheering, it seems that the Spanish are very grateful people at times & show their appreciation through clapping & cheering – they clap for the sun, they clap for the plane landing… anything that we generally take for granted!!
So the sun was down & we were left on the bleachers to finish our drinks and appreciate Bob Sinclair (‘love generation’) who was on at Café Mambo – they had a big screen tv outside & have a live link from his DJ box so we could fully appreciate him. Café Mambo was our toilet stop too – they had a toilet attendant – she was not so cool when she didn’t get an acceptable tip! I didn’t mind tipping when I used one of her 6 deodorants (spray) on offer, but to go to the bathroom, wash my hands with soap and dry them??? Umm no I don’t think so! Debbie got bailed up by her when she only put down 95 cents – apparently the minimum is €1!!
Trac, Rudz, Ngaia & I headed back to the hotel early – I had hit the wall earlier when I feel asleep waiting for some sushi at a nearby restaurant but managed to pull through to see the sunset obviously, but waiting for the club Eden to open at 12 was just too much like hardwork. The four of us left the rest to it (they were all fairly boozed at this point) & we walked home – all the restaurants are open VERY late – people were still trying to decide where to eat at 11pm! We stopped by a wee place just past where we watched the sunset & trac & I got our feet eaten at by Garra (? Something like that!) Fish – hahaha HILARIOUS cos we are such wimps but actually not too bad after you get used to these wee things nibbling at you!! Didn’t feel a whole heap different when we took our feet out but surely its gotta be good for you!!
Off for a walk down the beach this morning & grabbed some breakfast at a wee café along the way, it was around 9:30am and already so hot that a few of them had ice cream for breaky! It seemed like we walked for AGES, the heat was not ideal for exercising that’s for sure!
We came back & got the slackers then it was off to the beach (via the pool quickly to wait on the really slack slackers) – a decent beach is only 2 blocks from the hotel so very handy!! The slackers grabbed their breaky there while the rest of us enjoyed our best Ibiza investment to date - €4 lilo’s!! – in the ocean! The wee beaches are all netted off, not 100% sure why, but we ran with it & swam inside the nets just in case! Really really salty to, like eye stinging salty, the lilos were obviously ideal to avoid this!! Despite the continual application of sunscreen everybody is at least a wee bit burnt!! We seen a large array of breasts but we are all immature enough that the ‘boobs’ call is made everytime a new set is out! Poor wee conservative nz/ingill ppl that we are! Haha
We have booze supplies for tonight (cannabis vodka for me – cannot even imagine what that is gonna taste like!) so about to crack open the first drink before all the ice melts, we’ll grab some dinner down at the bar (my memory has deteriorated further since being on holiday but somehow I haven’t managed to forget to eat just eat!!) then off to Ibiza town to a club called ‘Space’ where there is a huge amount of DJs on tonight – Groove Armada @ 11 apparently so we plan to be there by then! The culture here is to sleep all day, drink from 10-11ish then head to the clubs around 2ish! We haven’t slept all day & usually im home by 1:30am! Hmmm interesting! No way there is so much entertainment going on around here it shouldn’t be a problem!!!
This place is really quite dirty, there is rubbish all along the roads, you can quite often smell stale urine & the odd pile of sunbaked vomit! Its easy to overlook it all when your only here for a short time & your spending most of your time at the pool, the beach or out in town though! Phew!
Off to Valencia tomorrow afternoon where we have an apartment to stay in (Lou, Hursty, Ngaia, Rudz, Trac & I) so hopefully that’ll mean a washing machine cos its getting about that time!! Tossing up whether we deflate the lilo’s & take them with us to Valencia too… long shot!!!
