Sur le pont d'Avignon

Today we started off with a nice run. Then we headed out to a town called Orange. We found a lovely park in the downtown area where the kids played and we ate our lunch. It was a fancy park with statues, an ornate fence all the way around, a fountain, lots of huge trees, and a small fenced area for the dogs to poo in. This last area appeared to be quite popular. We walked around the shops and then wandered around town where we found some ancient Roman remains of an amphitheatre where Placeto Domingo performed (more recently than Caesar who also made an appearance here not so recently). We also saw my favourite roundabout so far - it had gorgeous landscaping surrounding a huge fountain. It was tempting to drive around it all day....

Then we made our way to Avignon which was fairly close by. We saw the Pont d'Avignon (from the famous children's song Sur le Pont, d'Avignon). Then we wandered through the city and sat on a terrace for a while people-watching while we enjoyed drinks. We also found the festival that was currently underway which featured many artists performing (some in theaters and some in the streets). We caught a few street acts in front of the Palais du Pape which was also quite a sight!

Then we headed home to St-Peray where we picked up some Italian pizzas and brought them home to eat. They were delicious! Ultra thin crust and super tasty! A real mom and pop operation - mom took our order, pop cooked and the daughters answered the phones and grated cheese.

holiday fun
Getting this blog everyday is like being on the holiday with you. We enjoy so much your narration and the pictures as well. We rush to the computer every day to see where you have been. Love David and Pat
