National Buffalo Museum
National Buffalo Museum Heading westward back across the Dakota’s seem to go quickly….we covered about 370 miles, after dropping Judy & Beryl at the airport in Fargo. We pass through Jamestown where we stop at the National Buffalo Museum and Preserve. Which is host another large herd of Buffalo????, including a couple of rare albino buffalo. As we are still on our quest to see wild buffalo, what better place to stop right…..wrong… again all we see are stuffed replicas, no real buffalo.
The temperature is still HOT, HOT, HOT and Teika is still sick. She has thrown up a couple of times again and seems to be really stiff. We are worried.
We make our way to Medora and stop a campground along the Little Missouri..It has been flooded out twice this spring and has no gravel left on any of the roads. Of course we have a huge thunderstorm at night and we are camped in a mud hole!!! Thank goodness for tile floors!!
In the morning we wake up and Teika is still really sick….she has trouble walking so we put her in the car and take her off to Beach ND to a small town vet……a really nice man who
Albino Buffalo
Albino Buffalo checks her over and doesn’t think the tick borne diseases would be affecting her yet, but she may be suffering an allergic reaction to it. Her temperature is OK so we get some pills for her and will let her rest in the rig for the rest of day. He feels she should be feeling better tomorrow. The temperature has cooled off to a pleasant 80 windy degrees and we head off to explore the Medora area. It hosts Theodore Roosevelt National Park (home of a large herd of free roaming buffalo) as well as several other attractions. We golf the Bully Pulpit top rated golf course, set in the badlands of North Dakota….. Unfortunely due to flooding this spring half of it is washed away. They only have 9 nine holes left, but their signature hole # 15 is amazing!!! After golf we continue our quest to see live free roaming buffalo….We take the 36 mile wildlife loop through the park and are told the buffalo often block the road so be aware. We pass by beautiful scenic overlooks, wind canyons, wild horses and a million prairie dogs!! Rod you would be in heaven!!! But no buffalo, until we
Buffalo??
Only Buffalo we have seen so far come around the last bend we spot one lonely buffalo off in the distance lying against the cliff!!! We stop….zoom in the camera and get a picture of our only buffalo sighting of the entire trip!!! Oh well at least we saw one. He was probably chained there just for tourists like us!!!!
We head back to check on Teak who by now seems to be getting somewhat better and then head off to watch “Joey O” a golf/ acrobat/comedian. He has been on the tonight show and just travels around showing off his amazing golf skills!!! He hits golf balls in every possible way…..and he hits them far and straight every time!!! He can hit a golf ball 300 yards while standing on a ball!!! He has some amazing tricks…..hitting 5 balls at once…off of peoples feet… while standing on a ball on a table, with the tip of the club…back of the club….long clubs…bent clubs….rubber hose clubs….. It was a very cool show!!!! Makes you realize how good some golfers are.
Teika seems to be feeling better tonight…ate her supper and even went for a walk. We are heading off west tomorrow across Montana hopefully to Shelby and
