Breakfast
Breakfast for 50 !! The weather here is getting unbearably HOT HOT HOT..…We are not usually ones to complain but the temperature here today soared to 98 degrees with 90% humidity. It is a sauna that you can’t escape from. Our campground at Long Lake has only 30 amp power and with everyone on it trying to run air conditioners you get only a fan!! Too hot to be outside, but too hot to be inside.... and with all the water around the bugs are unreal!!! Mosquito’s and black flies that take huge chunks out of you!! Not real sure we like Minnesota so far.
Not long after our arrival at the campground the family starts to show up and because of the venue change the welcome BBQ is at our campsite. Oh well, what’s 50 extra people in your campsite!!! We meet cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and so on, you get the picture. It was really nice though and Annabelle who is celebrating her 100th birthday is amazing!!! The heat, flies and excitement don’t faze her at all. She is a very regal lady, still smart as a whip and still living mostly on her own. Her 2 sisters and Beryl are the
Group Shot
Torgrimson Clan !!! matriarchs of the families and are having a good time.
Breakfast the next morning is also at our site so the party starts all over again!!!
Breakfast….Pictures …and off to the golf tournament….golfing is so much fun when it is 100 degrees, but the Torgrimsons are a hearty bunch and we all have a good time. Back to the campground where dinner is at the picnic shelter instead of our site (seems a little quiet around our place). They cook up a feast of corn, shrimp and potato’s all in a huge boiler pot. What a great idea….dinner is excellent. They have pulled pork for the non-shrimpers and we all have another great time, despite it being in a giant sauna!!! Next day the party continues with Annabelle’s 100th Birthday party…..it is amazing she is still going strong despite having 3 full days and incredible HEAT!!! I have never been so Hot even in Mexico!!! Half way through the party we notice Teika's head is swollen twice its normal size…..she must have been bitten by something….. We give her a Benadryl and put her inside, but when we come back she is continuing to swell…. we notice a tick buried
Torgrimsons
82 +100+ 92+84 =358 years young!! into her neck/face. Using oil and a cotton-ball (Judy’s idea) we get the tick to back out!! What an ugly thing!!! Teika’s head starts to go down, but she still isn’t feeling very good. People warn of Rocky Mountain fever and Lyme’s so we will watch her and may take her to the vet if she doesn’t improve. The birthday party comes to an end ….we say our goodbyes and head back to our campsite in Fargo. Still so hot and they are saying the heat index is 115degrees so drink lots and stay cool!!! Ya sure!!! During the night we wake up to what we think is a siren but the thunder and air conditioner is so loud we are not sure. The thunder/ lightening, wind, rain and hail are back. This time the storm rages on for 3 hours….no one gets much sleep. In the morning we get up to down trees, broken awnings, tents, and a lake around our rig. Talking to people in the campsite…it was a siren….a tornado siren. Tornados were spotted in the storm and most people in the campsite were in the shelter….except for us, we didn’t know!!! Lucky for us we had
Dinner
Shrimp / Corn/Potato/Braut/ Boil no damage, but were camped in a lake that wasn’t there when we went to bed!!!
It is going to be another HOT day as it is 88 degrees at 10 am. We dropped Beryl and Judy off at the airport and are heading west again. Due to flooding in North Dakota we are heading west towards Montana and will come up to Canada through Montana rather than North Dakota. Teika is still sick so may be looking for a vet along the way.
Hope it’s not as hot where you are, but hot enough to feel like summer.
