Thunder Bay to Calgary is a long time to be stuck on a bus. I seem to have slept fairly soundly Friday evening. I woke up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The bus stop is at the airport so there is little to do during the lay over other then watch movies on the laptop. In Winnipeg upon boarding the bus you are required to go through a security search. They scan you and check your carry-on bag. I won’t rant for too long, but security puts me into a quiet rage. The sick part is I was watching Band of Brothers on the laptop during my lay over. Watching men die for our freedom. Now we must go through security to get on a bus. Oh how we have handed our freedom away. I wonder what Greyhound would have to say if I told them how I got on the bus in Sault Ste. Marie with my hunting knife attached to my belt or how I hid another knife in my carry-on in Winnipeg (because I forgot the knife was in my pocket during the security line up)?

I am fairly sore. I weighed my bags at Thunder Bay. They weigh in at 65 lbs. I don’t think my body was meant to carry 65 lbs. for mile and miles. I would be afraid to guess how many miles I walked over the last week.

In Brandon Manitoba I saw some of the flood waters that have plagued Manitoba. It was a fairly small area that was sand bagged and the water was subsiding but I was able to get a quick look at the flood waters. I noticed that everywhere seems to be wet. All the ditches, ponds and marshes along the TransCanada Hwy are full of water. After our Regina, Saskatchewan lay over, it was getting onto evening. I slept okay and woke up to rain Calgary. Finding the hostel was reasonably easy.

I am booked for the first time in a hostel and will stay for two nights while I try to figure out a bike purchase so I can move on with my trip. The plan will to back track (east) to Drumheller to check out the Bad Lands. This will give me a little bit of training before I try tackling the Rockies. I am concerned about making a bike purchase in only two days considering this bike will be my mode of transportation every day for the next 2-3 months. Not the wisest way to do this.
