My travel companions
This is the first blog entry of Kim’s Big Trip!

Since many of you have asked for me to stay in touch – and these days its not hard to with so many ways, I thought I would write a blog so I can share with you more detailed insights then just a ‘status update’ or ‘tweet’ about my travel experiences, stories, highlights and low lights of what is yet to come! It will serve as a journal entry for me and update for you – win-win! And if any of you have ever received a card from me – you will know that I’m no good at keeping things brief – so when you see an email from me, sit back, relax and enjoy!

I have somewhat of a plan and the rest will be taken as it comes! First stop is Abu Dhabi and Dubai for 4 days (I’ve always been curious about this place with its over-the-top detail) then onto Ireland for a week, London 5 days then camp starts and after that.. maybe Scotland then a big lap around Europe is on the cards.

The journey began this morning, actually you could say it started a few weeks ago when I finished work and planned to cram lots of planning before I took off. As many of you know, there isn’t much ‘down time’ in my life so here’s hoping I find some across the other side of the world!
My dearest mum helped me pack my bags (just 3) this morning. Her advice was to ‘get used to those bags, they are your travelling companions for the next 4 months’. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not – at least they won’t argue with me, stay up late chatting at night or cost me any money if I want to take them out for dinner!
I am the queen of last minute rush but I always deliver a golden outcome – that is, I made my flight on time and I don’t think I forgot anything. That brings me to where I a now – sitting in Premium Economy. You might be thinking – oh that sounds nice especially for a hospitality employee that has lived out of home for just over a year. Well I thought I deserved a little bit of luxury before I threw myself onto a crowded bus, sleeping in bunk beds with 15 other people, and chasing after children for 6 weeks.
Those hopes were dashed when I took my seat – as far as I could see there was plenty of leg room, but being infront of the crew/ kitchen meant I had pull up TV monitor and lap top on lap! Ok that’s not so bad, but it felt like I was in Family Class – seated between a mother with a 12 week old baby on one side and a 5 month pregnant lady on the other and just across the aisle, another lady with a baby and 3 year old. I suddenly remembered what I forgot.. earplugs!!
On the plus side of things, at least there is a steady supply of entertainment & food service to consume my attention for the next 14 hours. The big question is shall I start with a sleep, a movie, a game, chat to my fellow passengers or get stuck into a book (which is often on the holiday ‘to do’ list!). These are the kind of decisions I have to get used to making and adjusting to my new lifestyle – well at least for now, they will get a bit more challenging and creative later on!

Stay tuned for the next blog.. it might be later on in the flight if all other entertainment options fail or if I meet someone famous on the flight and have to tell all!
