Hi everyone,
well after one crazy journey we made it to Rio last night at 2100 local time. we picked a taxi from what seemed like thousands (and avoiding the strange men offering their services in the arrivals lounge!) finally arrived tired and weary to our hotel at 2200 - a mere twenty hours after leaving kettering.

Hotel is plain but clean and the service is good, and breakfast was ok this morning although even after trying most of the tea bags still couldn´t find a proper cup of tea, so craig decided to try some coffee instead which nearly blew his head off!! too much of that and he´ll be an addict.

Today we took the metro to Ipanema (took a gamble on which ticket to buy but worked out in the end). we walked through the bustling streets and found the beach (via a couple of suburban parks with fresh fruit stalls and freshly juiced coconuts, and some amazing trees which wouldn´t have looked out of place in the jungle book!) - very lovely but very windy! we then went on to the Copacabana (the hottest spot north of havana) where we sat for a few hours, the Copacabana beach was as good as they say although you might be best served by getting a sign to decline the many wonderful goods on offer by the locals! Amazingly we managed to see captain Jack Sparrow in all his finery although we didn´t get any pictures!

The weather today was around 26 degrees, although it is raining as we type this and it gets dark around 1700 here which is a bit confusing for us! we werent really ready for the temperature although the sun was nice. Rio is busier than we expected, more fashionable (and expensive), tomorrow we will continue our quest by leaving Rio for Sao Paulo, we are planning on leaving our hotel around 0830 to arrive (hopefully) around 1530; a six hour bus ride to look forward to!

some photos of rio will follow next time as someone (guess who) forgot the lead for the camera!!

so for now we will leave you with a quote from the great mister manilow.............................
'' Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there
She would merengue and do the cha-cha
And while she tried to be a star, Tony always tended bar
Across a crowded floor, they worked from 8 till 4
They were young and they had each other
Who could ask for more?

At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....they fell in love

(Copa Copacabana)

His name was Rico, he wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancin' there
And when she finished, he called her over
But Rico went a bit too far, Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....she lost her love

(Copa. . Copacabana)
(Copa Copacabana) (Copacabana, ahh ahh ahh ahh)
(Ahh ahh ahh ahh Copa Copacabana)
(Talking Havana have a banana)
(Music and passion...always the fash--shun)

Her name is Lola, she was a showgirl
But that was 30 years ago, when they used to have a show
Now it's a disco, but not for Lola
Still in the dress she used to wear, faded feathers in her hair
She sits there so refined, and drinks herself half-blind
She lost her youth and she lost her Tony
Now she's lost her mind!

At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana (Copacabana)
The hottest spot north of Havana (here)
At the Copa (CO!), Copacabana
Music and passion were always the fashion
At the Copa....don't fall in love

(Copa) don't fall in love
Copacabana
Copacabana

etc. to end
ps craig forgot the lead!!

peace out rabbit.
much love
