Mappelwell to Ilam 79 miles Total 729 miles.
Now to be honest I have to tell you that over the last few days my cycle computer and satnav have been disagreeing. It is a pity as they were in almost total agreement before that. When they disagree it is always by 10 miles with the cycle computer giving the higher mileage. I'll need to look into this when I get back. Anyway today was dominated by high winds which were at their worst at the beginning of the ride because there was little shelter. The wind was mostly against me. However when I had got past Buxton there was almost 15 miles of lovely off road cycle path that was suited to my bike and was mostly downhill. When I arrived in Ilam there was this very grand National Trust house that came into view. No indications of where the hostel was located. No large YHA logo to be seen. Upon asking it turned out that the large country house was the hostel.
Looking forward to tomorrow when I will arrive at Birmingham and meet up with Mary's brother John who will ride with me to Bristol. I will also see son James and be staying with friends Liz and Chris. Chris bears some responsibility for me doing this trip. He did the Le JoG last year.

windy?
Come on Jim! Me and the Field House housemates are thinking of you as the wind buffets around Durham. We're hoping it'll be with you for most of the way!! Use dad as a wind shelter if needs be. x
