After all our shopping around in Hongkong it’s time to keep moving… Our flight to Penang went smooth and our driver was waiting at the airport for us! Finally at 12 o’clock at night we arrived in our hostel! The heat was incredible! So room with aircon!

The next day we were so happy that we had a beach and all excited to go for a dive! But no… No swimming in the sea, cause there were heaps of jellyfish! So we ended up spending a few days at the swimming pool of some luxury resort! Not really much to do in Penang we decided to hit the road and to go to a little surfers paradise!
Our first bus in Malaysia was an experience! So clean and so much room!!! No people in the aisle, just the amount of people and seats!! The only thing they don’t really get is that the air-conditioning doesn’t have to be on 15 degrees and especially not during the night. But we made it to the east coast of Malaysia!

Cherating

Expecting paradise we arrived in a small village with more cats, dogs, monkeys then people. It just seemed like a ghost town! A handful of backpackers and that was it! The beach was amazing so we were happy as! But hey of course there had to be something wrong! Yes this time it was sand flies! First thinking we had some weird decees getting all little red dots over our body. But we spoke to a English couple (Fliss and Hannah) and they told us it was sand flies! Josh of course had nothing the next day, but I was all covered in big red bums!
After 3 days of relaxing and doing nothing at all we decided to go to our next stop in Malaysia.

Pulau Tioman

We first had to spend a night in the ferry town of Mersing. And that’s where our nightmare went on! Buckets and buckets of rain came down the skies! And on top of that we got, for the first time, introduced to bedbugs! Creepy crawlies who will bite you like a hundred times during the night! Our solution was to spray ourselves completely with deet and also our inliner till it was soaked and try to sleep! Outcome: we were sitting in the kitchen at about 5 o’clock in the morning and waiting till we could go onto the ferry at 8.30!
We met Jess (English dude) and Roos (bicycling from Singapore all the way to Bangkok or even more) and we decided to go to Juara on the east side of Tioman. The ferry was rough. About 60%!o(MISSING)f the people were puking! And of course it was still raining, raining and raining!
But Josh was in heaven because the surf was amazing! On our beach where only two places you could stay and we ended up in the beach shack huts!
Also we met up again with Fliss and Hannah we stayed in the place next to us! We just spend our days here by doing nothing and playing games and of course Josh surfing!
And not to forget one drunken night ending up at a karaoke were Josh requested a song from Celine Dion!! Whahahaha!!!

Borneo

After spending one afternoon on the internet in Tioman we made a plan! Going to Borneo for 2 weeks and do heaps of stuff. So finally left Tioman Islands after 1.5 weeks sad but happy to have a new adventure! First 2 days in Kuala Lumpur before flying to Borneo.
Arriving in Kota Kinabalu, capital of Sabah, we checked in to a lovely hostel and straight we were lost in what to do! Everything was so expensive! We again met up with our lovely friends Hannah and Fliss and decided to climb the mountain. Mt Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Malaysia with a height of 4095m.
300 Euros lighter in our pockets we started our climb with the four of us! And don’t forget the rain that’s been with us constantly. Our first hour it was nice and dry, but then the gods decided we needed some buckets and buckets of rain to make the climb more interesting!
After a four hour steep climb we arrived at the lodge soaked and ready for a hot shower. But hey our luck was on our side and there were no hot showers because of an electricity cut!
Spending the afternoon playing some cards and waiting for dinner to be ready we were happy to lay in our beds at 6 o’clock in the evening!
At 2 o’clock our alarm went off again to start the last part of the climb to the summit. Nice clear skies !
Full of energy we started but that didn’t last too long! It was freezing cold climbing up. Unfortunately Fliss had to quit 500m before the summit because of the altitude and I (ariska) quit 50m before the summit! Only Josh and Hannah made it to the top to end up in a huge big cloud and frozen eyebrows! The way down was far more beautiful!! The skies opened and you saw the clouds moving away from the top! After a quick breakie we had a long way to go down! But this time the weather gods spared us and we kept it dry!

The 3 days after in Kota Kinabalu we literally couldn’t walk anymore! We never had so much muscle pain ever before! After a couple of days watching movies and not moving we went with the girls to Sepilok Sanctuary to see our lovely friends, the Orang Utangs!

Sepilok

Sepilok is literally a few hostels and houses and nothing more! We went just one day to the feeding of the Orang Utangs which was great to see, but again we did it in the rain! We were not so lucky cause we only saw the two females with their babies twice (morning and afternoon). And somehow people think it’s OK to stand in the front and having their huge umbrellas blocking the view! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr… pissed us off!

Kinabatangan River

After a few recommendations from people we made our way up to Sakau on the Kinabatangan River. This is the second biggest river in Borneo and known for the proboscis monkey! Also well know by us as the “Dickface monkeys”! We ended up at a home stay along the river, but hey again our luck wasn’t on our side and this was a big mistake!! The owner was obsessed by the female parts of the human body!! He kept cracking jokes about it!! After our afternoon boat trip we kinda saw everything we wanted to see (even a Orang Utang in the wild) and decided to bail straight away the next day! Not really appreciated by the man of the house!! But we were happy sitting in the car seeing Sakau disappear in the distance!
Due to this we ended up staying in Sandakan for a few days watching movies before our flight back to Kuala Lumpur!

It looks like we didn’t have that much fun, but we have heaps of good memories!! What weather can do to your travel!! But the rainy season is late this year and we just kept going meeting wicked people along the way!! Thanks everybody!

Next stop Lombok, Indonesia!
