A week ago today I moved into my apartment and I have done so many things I feel like I've been here for much longer! That's a good thing...
I forgot to say that I had spent a few hours in the NY Public Library which was on my list of things to do. It really does look like it did in The DaVinci code and Sex in the City. A gorgeous building, rows and rows of tables and chairs in the reading rooms but not that conducive to just sitting and reading. A different day I sat outside of it and watched some street performers for a while when the weather was better. I must say the weather has mostly been cold and wet with a couple of good days thrown in. The trees outside my window have blossomed beautifully though so that's been good to see. Reminds me of the beautiful trees in Arkansas.
I love the various languages that I hear just walking down the street and the various accents of the English speakers as well. And contrary to much popular belief and stereotype, the people I have met have been mostly very helpful and friendly.
I also wanted to say that the little woman I spoke of at Starbucks, was seriously about 4'9" and she did not have on a short skirt as I thought when she was sitting, she had on a large T-shirt and a denim jacket that served as a coat, and barely covered her bottom. I love the characters that I see and hear!
It's no longer enough to order only water without lemon, but also Diet Coke, as they put lemon in it too if you don't ask them not to. And I did finally go to a restaurant, (food not being what I want to spend money on), which was of course, Burger Heaven, but they did not even have yellow mustard so I don't see how that could possibly be burger heaven.
They played Empire State of Mind at the beginning of the Knicks game and Billy Joel, New York State of Mind, at the end. It is definitely a state of mind and I'm in it.
Thursday I took the train to CT and saw Bet which was definitely a highlight after not seeing her for over six months!! We met at the Beaudoins
so I got to see all of them as well which was, as always, wonderful. Bet and I came back to the city last night and met a friend of hers for dinner. She showed me how to add pictures to my blog so I will do that! She is headed back to Seattle Wednesday and to Istanbul, Turkey at the end of the month to nanny for a year. Such adventures!!
My plan for this morning was to get up early and try to get SNL tickets at the NBC studios. I tossed and turned, trying to decide whether to 1) get up early, and/or 2) walk to NBC in the early morning hours. I finally got up at 5:15, was out the door by 5:30, had a wonderful early morning walk through the city, and arrived an hour before the box office opens which is the recommended timing. I stood there with one other guy from Brooklyn whose wife is having their first baby in three weeks, wondering why we were the only ones there, until someone came and told us that there was not a taping today! I guess next week I'll call first. So I
walked home and went back to bed...
Ginger said that Stacey and I did get on Letterman last night but I've yet to see it because I don't have cable...I guess I'll watch it online...
So...about 11:30 this morning, Stacey and Johnny picked me up and took me to the new Yankees Stadium for the Yankees/Rangers game for which Reza, the ticket mentor, got us tickets! And...we made it to the middle of the fifth inning before bailing because it was about 40 degrees and raining. It is a beautiful stadium and I love baseball, but seriously, it was 40 degrees and raining.
I'll likely brave the rain to get some play tickets for tonight but curling up with a good book sounds pretty good as well!
I think this catches us up on all the activities. The Tribeca Film Festival begins this week and I have many other fun things planned so I will continue to share my escapades with you! I love your comments and emails so keep them coming!!
