So as we survived Jumbo's super charge at the 4x4 in Yala we then headed towards Ella and the Tea Plantations - cup of tea anyone...?
The drive to Ella leaves you with no guesses as to why this area is called the "Hill Country" - it's hilly my friend - very hilly... and also green - very green... also has a few beautiful waterfalls thrown in for good measure. Apparently the hill country was first of all used to grow coffee rather than tea but to some unknown reason (there is only so much I can take in when listening about tea I'm afraid), so tea is now the major export of the area. And of course where there's tea there are tea factories and of course we were invited to see how tea is made and here I feel I must apologize as I can't pass on the vital procedure's required - as much as I like tea, and I do, I have no interest in seeing how PG Tips get from a tea leaf to a pyramid shaped tea bag I use at home - what can I say, it's just something I can live without knowing...
One other activity Ella is renowned for is hiking so we took a wee trek up what's called "Little Adams Peak" to which we had a few days ahead of us so we thought a little training couldn't hurt. The trek only took a couple of hours to complete but while we were at the top, and once the clouds had lifted you were rewarded with a wonderful view of the hill country and the world famous Ella gap - which is of course a gap between two hills....
There isn't too much else to write about Ella as we had to catch an early train (yes a train I hear you say), to Dalhouse on the way to the BIG Adams peak... see you there...
