Tunnel through the MountainTunnel through the MountainTunnel through the Mountain

This is Tunnel built through a mountain to allow traffic from the airport to Lhasa
In China, they have a one week labor day called May Holiday. For May Holiday, I went to Tibet. I went with my group of Americans. We to Tibet by plane and arrived in the largest city in Tibet, Lhasa. Lhasa is about 3,000 meters above sea level. Once, I got off the plane I immediately felt a little light headed. I was breathing hard and my heart was pounding like crazy. Yes, I had high elevation sickness. After getting off the plane, we had to take a bus from the airport to the hotel. That took about an hour. We checked into the hotel and I felt worse. I was heating up and shivering.... I layed in bed while a wannabe doctor came into my room stuck some needles in me. Ok, this part I'm not very clear...I was out by the time the second needle went in me. Luckily, I survived. I guess those shots worked because I felt a little better the next day.

Next Day, Hiking of the Potala.

Potala temple is the temple where the Dali Lama is suppose to rule/sit. It is the tallest structure in Lhasa. No other building can be taller

than the Potala. As most of you know, the current 14th Dali Lama is not in China but is in America. He is banned from China because of his "Free Tibet" beliefs...no more on that subject. From what I understand, the Dali lama is suppose to protect and somewhat rule over Tibet. All the tibetans are very devote Buddhist. They give their all to the temple and the Dali Lama. The way the Dali Lama is chosen is very interesting. The previous Dali lama, before he dies, writes on a piece of paper information which would lead to the discovery of his own reincarnation. The day and time he dies is when the new Dali Lama is born. This special boy is found and brought to the temple for training. It is very honorable to be a monk in Tibet. So to be chosen to be the Dali Lama is something very great.

Ok, enough with that one. I almost died trying to hike up the Potala. All the smiles that you see in my photos are FAKE and are FORCED!

I am actually dying here. I am already lacking oxygen and climbing up to this temple isn't helping the matter...I don't know how those monks do it...

Each wheel has scriptures engraved on them. When you turn it, it represents you reading it.
