The legendary Castle of King Arthur
13th March 2011
The weather gods are shining upon us as it rained only during the night, and this morning we woke up to a perfect blue sky, but a wind that is like ice! However, we were able to ditch the coats as the day went on and you have to look at our photos on Facebook to see the proof! Not as much driving today as We were closer to the places that we wanted to see. After waking up in the Budemeadows campground, we left after a nice cooked breakfast to see the legendary home of King Arthur, Tintagel. Amazing old castle rem ants perched on a piece of formidable coastline. Also a very old post office! As it was Sunday, it didn't open till 11am. What is the postal service coming too! We left there and drove to Padstow, a pretty little seaside town famous for Rick Steins restaurant. What has been interesting to note is the number of people out with their dogs. They are everywhere! As if you didn't have enough hazards in these narrow cobbled lanes, you have to contend with dogs, owners and leads. We encountered more dogs at our next stop in St Ives, as well as hills! Because driving down into these towns is a disaster just waiting to happen, we chose to park outside of town and walk down the hill. There was a bus available to take you back up, and we thought we might catch that back up, but we couldn't find where it left from. Oh well, a bit of extra exercise for the day. After locating this campground , with impressive views over the Atlantic, we set off to find a pub and watch the six nations game, but the myth that there is a pub on every corner has been dispelled because we couldn't find one where we didn't have to walk down and then Up a horrendous hill again. We have settled for listening to it on the radio in the van and enjoying the view. Thinking of everyone back home. Love to you all.
