We had planned to spend our first day together just ramming around S.D. So we took the bus to the "Old City" section of town. The weather (predicted to be rainy) was beautiful as we walked around looking in all the little shops and at all the flowers and plants. I particularly liked a poster I saw for a spicy food show --
We had a light lunch of some wonderful chips and salsa, chicken casadias, and washed it down with a couple of frosty Pacificos -- yummy! Just to go the whole gringo tourista route, we were even serenaded by a 3 piece mariachi band -- why the hell not?
After that, the weather moved in as we road the street car downtown to the Maritime Museum. We were prepared with raincoats though, so we carried on uninterrupted. It's a terrific place, with several square rigged ships, two submarines, a steam yacht, and even an old San Francisco ferry. I took a picture of Cathy gracefully going through a bulkhead on a Russian Attack sub. We both decided that a career as a submariner would not have been a good fit for either of us.
Tomorrow we
head north toward L.A. -- and beyond.

We are loving your blogs. Sounds like it has been a great trip. We especially enjoyed reading about Galveston. Having lived in south Houston for 3 years, we spent a lot of time on the Strand. Can't wait to read more!
