6.30 am. Woke up to a cloudy sky and yet more rain so today’s trip to the Chinese Gardens looks dodgy. A quick swim in the pool. Then after breakfast it was down to Pyrmont Wharf (about 10 minutes stroll along the Harbourside) and took the ferry to Manly Island clearly a popular destination for visitors to Sydney and it wasn’t long before we found out why. What a beautiful spot with delightful coves, its own sub climate and a place which seems ideal to live. We had a good walk around the northern tip of the island which took in forest reserve, cliff views of the sea and the main beaches. There were plenty of spiders laying in wait for any unfortunate prey that happened to get caught in their webs but we managed to avoid those and our long walk ended back at the ferry wharf with a well deserved ice cream. Sydney on the Ferry
Sydney on the Ferry a spontaneous decision to buy tickets for Puccini’s Madama Butterfly that was playing that night. Boy, who said opera was stuffy? A fantastic performance of this love tragedy with dramatic moments, emotional quiet interludes, brilliant singing and music, the acting was superb and the aria of ‘One Fine Day’ bought the house down. We are not opera buffs but I tell you this when you see it done well and live it is an experience you never forget – remember that Julia Roberts moment in Pretty Woman when she hears the aria of ‘One Fine Day’ and is reduced to tears? Tomorrow Marina is off on her bridge climb and hoping for good weather.
Today’s highs – quite simply – everything
Today’s lows – the rush back to the apartment to change and the cost of taxis!
