SegoviaSegoviaSegovia

First view of Segovia
Hey everyone! I am sorry that it has taken me this long to write again! Things got kind of busy here for a week because my professor from the Overseas Program was visiting us here! It was so good to see her and a lot of fun to show her around Avila and my school. She was very impressed with how all of us are doing in Avila and at our schools!

The past few weeks here have been very nice considering the amount of vacation time I have gotten. As you all know, I went around Europe for a little over a week during my Easter break. Last weekend I had Monday off and this weekend I have off Monday and Tuesday. The past 3 holidays have been for saints who are famous to Avila or Spain. It's been great! I think we should start making 'saint holidays' in the US!

Another one of the American girls and I traveled about 30 minutes from Avila to a town called Segovia. It was beautiful. It is well known for the Alcazar, a huge castle, and an old Roman Aqueduct. When we first got there we visited the Cathedral in

The old Roman Aqueduct that has been around for nearly 2000 years
Segovia. It was really pretty inside, but I am discovering that once you see one cathedral in Europe, the rest are pretty much the same. There might be a few differences here and there, but most of them are similar. I'm always amazed how pretty they are inside, but it wasn't anything different from what I am used

While we were trying to find a place to eat that afternoon we came upon the old Roman aqueduct that Segovia is well-known for. It was beautiful. The pictures that I took just don't do it justice. It was such a neat thing to look at, even though it was just an aqueduct, but to think about how they built this huge thing that used to be 16 km (9.9 miles) long and 29 m(95 feet) high when they didn't have the technology like we do today is what makes it most amazing to me. It was built in the 1st century AD. I think that this is one of my favorite things that I have seen since I have been here.

After the aqueduct and lunch (we ate at a restaurant named the American Restuarant and I had fajitas,

Me with the Alcazar (castle) at the top of the hill/cliff
so I got my Mexican craving fixed), we ventured off to the Alcazar (castle). This castle was built when the Romans ruled...its complete with a moat and all! It's up on a cliff/steep hill, so when we were at the top of the tower of the castle, my knees were very weak because it was so high. I tried to get the best pitcures that I could without getting to close to the side! Supposedly this castle is what inspired Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland in California. Overall this castle was pretty, but it still didn't top the palace in Munich. It's definitely prettier on the outside-its what you would think that a castle is supposed to look like, but as for the inside, it didn't amaze me too much.

For those of you who love animals or horses, there is a horse in a field next to the Residencia that I live in (it is similar to a dorm in college). The other American girls and I try to take an apple or pear to the horse every day. This horse is the friendliest horse! When we are walking over to the field she neighs and

then runs over to us! It's really funny, but I love going to see her because I love animals.

I only have a little less than 2 weeks now in Avila! I cannot believe how quickly the time has passed! I have 8 more days in my school and 10 days total here. I love my students at my school and I really enjoy working with my teacher and the other staff members, but I think that when the time comes, I will be ready to leave. I am ready to travel for a few weeks and then be back at home with my family and friends (and be able to speak English whenever I want). It has been very difficult to be so far away from everyone, but it has been a great experience!

Thats about all for now...let me know how you are doing! Hasta luego (See you later)!
