Mercy in Costa Rica

Less than 10 minutes across the Northern border into Costa Rica in the middle of absolute nowhere.

A shudder and a loud noise from our car. Nothing but neutral. The clutch failed.

Only one lane of highway in either direction with no shoulder and no way to pull off the road. Big trucks coming and it is getting late in the day. We are still on a hill traveling downward. There is only one tiny dirt lane to pull off on before the next uphill.

God is there.

It is the entrance to a hotel. Not only will we be able to spend the night there but the hotel owner's husband works as a taxi driver in the next big town. One phone call and the husband arranges a tow truck, a mechanic, and everything we will need. That night the Lord gives us a long witness opportunity with the hotel owner and one of the employees.

Sometimes God makes clutches fail.

Southern Costa Rica. Hurricane Tomás traps us in a small town for a week. God sends a woman named Ingrid from Austria to tell us about a parking lot where we will be safe that will only cost $2-night. He protects us from many things in that town.

Central Costa Rica. We choose a church based on a recommendation from a couple in Mexico City. The pastor in an amazing display of hospitality not only invites us over to eat but allows us to stay at his home. He later puts us in contact with a number of folks in South America. I don't know if those recommendations will change the course of our future (they might!) but the mechanical tips we received there have already saved us from one roadside disaster.

There are no "random occurrences" in God's universe.

Central Costa Rica. Trapped for a month longer due to shipping problems. No money. A little mom-and-pop hotel agrees to a 70% discount so we have a place to stay and cook meals which will save lots of money (right after turning down the people in line in front of us for a MUCH smaller request).

The hotel took us in but God was our refuge.

We then headed for the port. Between the time we put our car on the ship and were due to fly out we had four homeless days where we planned to camp out in the airport due to lack of funds. Complete strangers (that had no connection to us whatsoever) heard about our situation, took us in, housed us and fed us. Complete angels when we were in need.

Costa Rica has been trying.

God has been MUCH bigger.

wow
Thanks for reminding me of God's faithfulness. Their are times, even after he has helped us a million times, that we loose sight. WE forget how much He loves us. I have been there for a few days. I am truly lifted by God speaking through you! I am so proud of your wife speaking out to the policeman in God's name. You the speaker and diplomat, her the spirit filled fireball. Praise God for you both! Love you dearly, Tio Moco y Tia Moco
