Nice eye!
Kelly punched Claire... with a mosquito Distance travelled: 74 miles/120 km’s
Today was an extremely eventful day that started with a mosquito attack at 4am! Anyone that knows me well will know that whenever I visit a hot country where the mosquito count outnumbers that of humans, I always get bitten on my eyelids, no where else... just my face! So I woke up this morning to 5 bites which included one on my lip, chin, side of my face and two around my left eye. What a great start to one of the bigger days on the tour. The real story... Kelly punched me out because I stole the bed by the window!
Mosquito attacks aside, last night Kel and I pimped our bikes so we now have streamers, baskets, spokey dokes and road kill to keep us going over the next week. Not sure if they have brought us much luck though as Kel and I both had some bike dramas today, - my chain came off twice and Kel had a small stack when she stopped to help me followed by some knee dramas after lunch.
After 120km we thought we’d be feeling a lot worse but surprisingly we feel quite
good. Yes the bums are a little sore and my eye is still pi**ing me off but nothing a Thai Massage and good night sleep won’t fix.
Today’s ride while longer seemed far easier than yesterday’s, largely helped by the fabulous scenery, minimal sun, eventful mishaps, our pimped bikes and a boat ride!
The morning began with a short ride past Klai Kang Wan Royal Palace. The bums were a little sore first up but once we settled in we had a nice ride through some smaller fishing towns, coasted past a beautiful lake and then ventured up a small track where we ran in to dinner - a very large turkey - which we should of claimed for Branka’s Serbian Christmas tomorrow!
The mountain bikes came in handy on the second leg as we ventured through dirt tracks and some very soft sand. Bit nervy being clipped in, in fact we both almost came off a couple of times, but thankfully every one else decided to hop off and walk it so we took the easier option and joined them (sorry JEG!). Through the dirt track, past the mangroves and on to a special detour -
the boat ride with Skeletor! As you’ll see in the pics we loaded the bikes up on to the boats for a short 50m transfer across the river. No mishaps here thank god but slightly concerned about our boat driver... Skeletor!
The next couple of stages before lunch were the best of the day as we hit the open road (and the head wind) and cruised through Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. Kel, Branka and I made ourselves at home at the back of the pack cranking the DCM’s tunes on the ipod as we rode past the mountains of Avatar (as nick named by Greg) and past the prawn farms where we got dirty prawn water flicked all over us! We smelt hot!
Two hard legs after lunch including some freeway riding saw Kel’s knee give way so we opted to cruise the rest of the day, sing some songs and take in the scenery when there was some. We’re proud to say we hit our first century today but know with that will come some very bottoms!
Some other highlights from today - the elephant walking down the freeway; more dogs and cocks; our
awesome rendition of Rhianna’s ‘Only Girl’ (changed to we are the only girls) and an amazing temple where we stopped off for a quick group shot!
Short day tomorrow (75km) before a tough day on Saturday. On the downward slope to our rest day so we’re getting just a little bit excited. Lot’s to celebrate! Birthdays and Serbian Christmas’s!
Over and Out!
Thelma and Louise + 1 (Branka)
aka Claire and Kel
P.S Kel needs a bum ring to sit on.

Wow CLaire - this trip is so amazing. Is it even better than you hoped for? Sorry to hear about the mozzy bites. I am the same so know how you feel. I too have woken up with a face full of bites - not good. The eye looks painful, hope it is better today. You are a trooper! I have to disagree with you re Skeletor. Although I can see a likeness, I think he looks more like Freddie Mercury from the "I want to break free" era haha! Anyway, keep up the great work. I cant believe I know somebody doing this amazing trip - very proud of you!! How will you go back to a desk job after this?? Ruth
