Just came across this sad story....http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2011/01/03/16748581.html. Yes I too was at the Phuket airport, but a day after the accident. The roads are chaotic to say the least, so those are the chances one takes....thankfully my shuttle driver got our group to Patong Beach all in one piece. Too funny I shared the ride with a fellow Canuck who is presently living in Jakarta and doing some geo work for an international oil/gas firm. He is taking a month off to travel....cool stories. Hasn't been back to Canada in over 3 years and loving his life.
Now back to the craziness, decided to rent a scooter (I have been walking way too much in cheap sandals and my feet need a rest) for the day to check out some beaches further down the coast, quieter, less crowded beaches. Patong beach is madness (I have pics but am unable to upload as of yet). Other then having to figure out how to drive on the left side of the road, it has been an adventure! And yes mom I am wearing a helmet. And don't worry, they don't go very fast.
Cool night - saw the sun set and was still awake to see the sun rise, jet lag is a B*t*h. Amazing how many street vendors, bars, clubs were open at 5am......had 2hr power nap this morning and ready to go....do you know they sell a lot of red bull in this town!!! More expensive then beer....very strange.
Latest report, backpack is to arrive in Phuket this afternoon, but no word on whether they are delivering to hotel or just leaving at airport. And since I had to change hotels (they were booked up) the luggage adventures continue.
So time to pack up and change hotels, then on the scooter for a little island touring. If backpack arrives today, the plan is to fly to Koh Samui/Ko Tao tomorrow until Jan 9th when I have to be in Bangkok to start my tour.
Promise to put up some pictures as soon as i find computer that can handle it!!

Hey There!
Great Blog Entries! I'm planning on flying out of Ottawa for Hanoi at the end of the month, I'll be in BKK and then the islands a couple of weeks after. I look forward to hearing about your adventures! hopefully your luggage arrives. Otherwise, how hard could it be to live off of a street vendor's bathing suit and t-shirts, just remember you're in paradise ;)
