Bologna day 2, 31 st oct. Today for 1st time we r really worn out. The building exibition was so massive it really took it out of us & our legs feel like lead weights! So today we will
Catch the open top tourist bus around & get overview of the city & then go to the medieval museum which sounds good & max is keen cause its free!
8 pm- bus around city was good eventhough driver tht he was at mt. Panaroma! This place is buzzing with constant activity, where we had our beers last nt the table and chairs were literally on the side of the road, with cars, scooters & pushbikes all jostling for a place on the road-then u have to add pedestrians to this mix! People just walk out in front of cars and the cars just drive around them , it all seems to work but theres the constant sound of car horns in short bursts!
We have had to catch taxis a few times here which have made for some interesting trips but u feel like they're capable & once u show them where u goin on map they know where they going (unlike in oz). The medieval musuem was good, not that big and different to anything else we've seen. It mostly had the sarcophagus' of important professors frm the university in bologna, which dates back to the 10 hundreds! Guide on tourist bus said bologna only place in italy where their professors were immortal ised more in statues than the saints or conquerors. Funny thing-we had lunch at a restaurant (all waiters dressed in white coats with black bow ties,& they want to serve u & look after u, they treat u with such respect and r always busy doing something-how can we ever eat out in tea gardens again!)- waiter kept calling max Doctor , would u like wine doctor? Later we found out here they class people as native bolognesie, students, tourists or professors, and they refer to professors as dr. ! He was really chuffed with that! So I keep calling him dr. now!
Bologna was where spaghetti bolognese originated frm but they use pasta tortelleni or tagliettele not actual spaghetti and call the meat sauce ragu. As this is their speciality I had this at restaurant.and max hd pizza that waiter recommended , both dishes nice, washed down with more vino of course!
For dinner we decided to have beer and snacks so went into a 3 storey gourmet food shop around corner which also has a book shop on 1 floor! This was funny because they had heaps of foodstuffs and wine and beers (but not cold) it was bit daunting so i just went up to deli counter and asked "inglaise?", "english?" & si si one of the workers did so we asked him what he recommended and he handed us a shopping basket! We got 8 beers, cheese, salami, olives, crackers and they all
tht it was great esp. when we loading the beers in!
