Inside Te PapaInside Te PapaInside Te Papa

It's quite a museum.
Wellington: There are better cities, but at least here you can buy stuff you need in the city centre (I'm looking at you, Christchurch) and I've eaten ve-hery well here which kind of endears me to a place. I've found that it does have some of it's own atmosphere, despite what some people may say, though I've never found a parliament area so quiet and free of protesters. Considering that Wellington appears to house a few politically active types you'd think that there would be at least one person trying to camp on the pavement outside or something.

Anyway, you want to know what I did in Wellington, right?

Day the First:
I went to Te Papa, the museum of New Zealand! Yeah!

It has all sorts of Kiwi stuff, like a Lord Of The Rings exhibition (which you had to pay to get into, probably because it was the most popular bit; the rest was free) which was full of costumes, props and 'How it Was Done' stuff. Lots of it.

I also discovered that Maori carvings and language are really rather fantastic (they had a meeting house inside the museum which qualifies as one of the most awesome spaces I've seen yet), that I would be good at making early settler's decisions for them (I got a perfect score for Lars the Danish Sailor- apparently having him in a same sex relationship was a good idea) and lots more.

Places I ate:
Lunch- Korean Food stand in a cheap food court. I had freshly cooked Bulgogi Bab from a guy who spoke little English but made good food in large amounts for cheap. Choice, as they say around here.

Dinner- Pizza from Hell. Weird pizza shop (I thought it was a club on first viewing, pizzas named after evil stuff), great pizza. I can't remember what the name of the one I had was, but it was awesome tasty. I want it back home.

Day the Second:

I tried to sort out what I was doing after this with travel shop person at hostel. After a bit of wrangling with timetables and stuff, we decided on a Taupo, East Coast, Rotorua, Auckland and Northland route to fill up the next two weeks. Just need to try and get back after...

For the rest of the day I walked around and took a cable car up to the botanical gardens at the top of a hill. I reckon it beats the one in Christchurch (the views are better at any rate), even though it was quite a walk (by Wellington standards) back down. I also looked at the art museum, but got kicked out due to closing time.

Lunch- I had my first taste of Vietnamese Pho (Beef noodle soup) from the same food court. Mostly tasty, but a little much coriander.

I have to stay till Monday due to bus timetables, so I have another day to kill in Wellington. I shall let you know what I do with it..

Are you sure you don't want to be a chef - unlike some(no names..) at least you can identify coriander! Enjoy the bus trip.
