After arrival, it took a long while to get through customs. When we finally got through, Trey had sent a taxi to meet & take us to his & Andrew’s apartment. They live in an area called San Telmo. What a nice place with a view! We freshened up & went on a walking tour. It was a very unusual day. Everything was closed because it was declared so by the government for Census Day & nothing could open until 8:00 p.m. And I mean nothing! There were no stores, no restaurants, nothing!
Yesterday was also a very eventful day as the former President, Nestor Kirchner, who was also the husband of the current President, Cristina Kirchner, died of a heart attack yesterday morning. Trey & Andrew live about 10 blocks from “The Pink House”, Argentina’s version of The White House. In the spirit of government activity, we went to the Evita Peron Museum. As you are most likely aware, she was the second wife of Argentinean President Juan Peron and served as the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952.
We ended the day with a wonderful meal at Café San Juan Restaurant. More
tomorrow!
