Wednesday, 10/6, Susan took the train from Staunton to DC. Allison (and Hill's roommate Sara) met her. Proceeded to Hill's apartment, had fresh shrimp scampi (thanks, Hill) and finished packing Hill's belongings.
Thursday morning, Hill headed off to work. Allison and Susan went and picked up the 16 foot truck, brought it back to the apartment building. At 10:30, the Simple Moving Labor guys arrived and transported Hill's belongings. They were scheduled for 3 hours and that was just about perfect. Poor guys had to go down the elevator, across the courtyard, up about 8 steps, then out to the truck. Kept at it and packed the truck in very well.
Susan driving the truck and Allison in her car headed out for Harrisonburg. Beltway was packed, construction, lanes shifting, etc., but they got through it. A little hairy as I'd never driven anything that high and wind was pretty strong. Got to Mt. Jackson and pulled into Mike's lot and suggested we trade vehicles!
Friday morning, Allison left at 7 to head down, pick up the house key, and open the place up. At 8, one of the EMU students who'd answered our ad showed up. He worked up a sweat and left after two hours with the pay we'd set aside for two guys and 3 extra Mr. J's breakfast specials. We left Harrisonburg about noon, stopped briefly for a hot dog in Mooresville NC, got stuck in traffice between there and Charlotte, and got to Bluffton about 11.
Allison had been having quite a time of it at the house--the alarm system, which wasn't activated, kept going off. It kept up into the night so she came to the hotel with us and we let Hill and Sara know to also come to the hotel, not go to the house as they were planning.
Saturday morning, we all went to the house, where the alarm repeated its antics, the security company continued to claim that the alarm wasn't 'activated' and the realtor finally found someone who could fix it. It was a really horrible sound but it's working properly now.
Saturday we unloaded the truck; David's friend Jason and a friend of his, Dan, came by and helped with the bedroom furniture--that was a huge help. We arranged, unboxed, packed, shopped, etc. Mike & Hill emptied David's storage unit and we returned the truck Sunday. Hung pictures, clothes, organized some more, washed everything, etc.
Monday, Hill had a job interview first thing. We left about noon, got back to the 'burg about 9:30! Wow, what a long weekend!

Whew!
Congrats on getting the girls moved. How are you doing -- it's a bit hard having them so far away, isn't it?

hi!
heh--how did you know I'd posted something else on there? I thought I'd removed all the emails so folks wouldn't be bothered by stuff like this. I'm on the page, doing some prep work for my trip to China this summer (want to go???) and just saw comments from the move bit! Yes it was WORK
