Not the best start to travel life….managed to get cheap local bus to HSR Layout to Som’s service apartments. After being driven around by a very confused rickshaw man we found the unnamed, dark building in the middle of no where. The manager locked the door behind me and it was quickly apparent that I was the only guest in a hostel predominantly used by Indian men. I left. Got AR to MG Road, knackered, smelly, at least 1 million horns, about 8 cow near misses, many almost topples in AR later I blow my budget on the first night on a hotel with TV, air con and hot water.
Bangalore strikes me as an insane place, nearest comparable so far I’d say would be Bangkok, but the pollution and traffic and noise seem worse to me. Saw no foreigners at all, I get the feeling that there is a substantially smaller travel population in India than SE Asia, which is great as it’s actually a challenge and I like a challenge.
Not too keen on Bangalore though. May choke to death if I stay any longer.

Cud've chosen a budget hotel in Mysore
Hi Emmajane, Karnataka is a beautiful place to visit but one needs to be a little careful with regards to the hotels since all may not be satisfactory. Last time I was in Mysore I stayed in Ginger Hotels there which was very nice and comfortable. I could do my booking before hand online and the facilities offered were optimum without any unnecessary frills. I liked it there!
