Santa Vittore Mauro
Well I am back at the local coffee shop. Again no other bloggers or even anyone else on a computer. The church bells are ringing across the square and the sun is finally shining so life is good! At least in Poschiavo we don't have dueling church bells like there were in Grub; first the catholics and then the protestants. The catholic church here lovely not as gaudy as in St Gallen, and such a stark contrast to the protestant reformed building. The catholics with lots of stained glass, gilding, statues... and the reformed church plain white and grey.

Yesterday we took the train the the Swiss National Park; about a 2.5 hour train ride through the Alps (I still can't believe I am here). We had lunch in the park at another restaurant that looks like Andre's on the inside. Our plan was to take a moderate hike after lunch that only went up about 200 meters over the course of the hike. We kept expecting the trail to start to go down and were feeling like real whips as we (well I) struggled up each switch back, but when we finally got to the end we had taken

the longer, higher trail, so maybe we are in better shape than we thought. I keep looking at the map and still cannot figure out how we ended up where we did, but the views where fantastic even in the fog and clouds along the trail. It was spitting rain all day, but still beautiful. We were feeling pretty smug when we returned in the evening to pouring rain in Poschiavo.

Today we are taking the train south almost to Italy. The train in this area is amazing with many tunnels and bridges and we are going especially to a famous cirular bridge and since it is sunny a hike.

Auf Widersehen,

Mary and Gary

Hi Mary, Busy week here, so just logged on to your blog after a week. Such beautiful photos and what sounds like a magical trip! Looks a lot scenes from that old Shirley Temple movie, "Heidi". (Only us oldsters will have a clue...). I am certainly impressed at your hiking prowess, and glad the views were worth the burn. I do think we shall be forced to return to the Alscasce area for more geneology work, don't you? Hugs to Gary. Love, Pat and Jim
