17th and 18th August - Last day of tour and a horrendous day in Nairobi - Arusha, Tanzania to Nairobi, Kenya

Another early start…..yes another one....... but this would be the last one. We made ourselves a packed lunch to eat on the truck as we had a big distance to cover and a border crossing that usually took a lot of time but we managed to arrive into Nairobi at about 3pm and missed the really bad rush hour traffic that Nairobi is notorious for.

We were dropped at the hotel where most people off the tour were staying but Kath and I had gone for a budget option so piled all our stuff into a taxi and made our way there…..I was a bit nervous at this stage as I’d heard so many bad stories about Nairobi….or Nairobbery as everyone calls it! We made it to our B&B safe and sound although a little shell shocked at the many people, cars, bikes and buses on the road. After a hot shower and a change of clothes we were back at the other hotel to meet the rest of the group for our final dinner together.

Cassidy had arranged for us to go to a Chinese restaurant and luckily for the restaurant I can’t remember the name because what we experienced was the worst service I’ve ever had plus we woke up the next day to find that most of us had food poisoning in varying degrees.

What ensued the next day was a horror of Kath and I trying to get my table in the post, book tickets on the bus to Kampala and for Kath to vote in the Australian election at the Australian High Commission….in between being sick….not a great day! After managing to sort everything out (everything takes 10 times longer here than at home) we taxied back to our b&b to sleep and avoid food......we had a 13-14 hour bus trip to Kampala ahead of us the next day and needed to be feeling at least a little better than we did.

Sorry I didn't take many photos in Nairobi as I was otherwise occupied.....................
